I recently left an agency because of its toxic environment. There was bullying and gender discrimination. At my next interview, should I be honest about why I left?

Nope. No negative comments about previous employer. Ask instead about culture what their values are, etc

You can be honest about it after you land the job.

^^ 100% agree. Don't bring any negativity into an interview.

It’s considered bad form to bad mouth previous employers while interviewing, at least in any real and specific way. You can vaguely insinuate at times and allow the interviewer to read between the lines and draw their own conclusion. This may seem a little old-fashioned, but it’s about professionalism. You need to show that you understand what is appropriate in the context. Stay high level, say you learned a lot and your time there was valuable, but you’re looking for a better culture fit where you can produce great work and grow, etc.

Thanks ladies. This is SUPER helpful!

I’m at a new job (that I love!) and completely left out how much I hated my last job. When I let things slip out now, I must sound like a POW. Hahahah... I’d say hold onto those details as long as you can.

like

Nope. Always talk about how you are looking to grow as a creative, spin the negatives into positives.

Good luck OP!

Check yourself. New employers don’t want to feel like they’ve just hired a problem. Even if prior complaints were valid, 100% fact-based and warranted, you risk a lot by revealing past experiences like these at any point. Terrible, unfair and ridiculous, but it’s still where we are culturally—unfortunately.

In house interviews: I finished a final round of interviews and was expecting a final decision after the interviews. Rather than yes or no, the recruiter told me that the feedback is positive but they need to interview one more candidate to compare since I am the first one interviewed. And they wanted to add one more meeting with their new team member starting next week. Is this common and what’s the best way to deal with this unexpected message? Thanks!
