I recently lost my dad, and I really have no idea how I’m going to survive busy season carrying around so much grief.

I am so sorry for your loss. When I lost my dad I fell apart. When I tried to go back to work all I did was cry at my desk so they sent me home for another week. Eventually I pulled myself together and threw myself into work to stay busy and make the days go by. Those first 6 months were the worst, some days were ok, some days were horrible, but you move forward because you have to and that’s what your father would have wanted you to do. Unfortunately the rest of the world marches on while you stand there wanting to scream.

Hang in there and take one day at a time. It’s time to take care of yourself. The loss of a parent is profound, and life changing.

Very well said

❤️ I have no way to help you, but I’m really sorry for your loss

I’m so, so sorry. No advice except to take good care of yourself.

Sorry for your loss. Take the time off that you need for you and your family. Your coworkers will understand.

Sorry for your loss. You don’t get bereavement period from your place?

Sorry for your loss. Please take care of yourself.

I had a similar experience in 2015. Busy season was actually a great “distraction”. I would get busy with a task, and get a break from my grief for a period of time. Plus, I was tired from busy season work load, so it actually helped me sleep rather than lying in bed thinking sad thoughts. It sound odd, but busy season actually helped my situation. I was still sad/grieving, but getting sucked into work was a well needed break from the constant grief.

I’m so sorry for your loss and know that nothing can really make you feel better at this time. I lost my dad during busy season in 2017 and I was shattered. Absolutely shattered. I still am, but have learned to adjust to the new normal.

It’s normal to feel shattered and sad and don’t let anyone make you feel as though grieving isn’t normal. Please take time off to grieve and if the standard 5 bereavement days isn’t enough take more. Do what you need to be mentally ok and ready to dive back into things. It’s absolutely ok to be selfish and do what is best for you. Your mental health is pivotal and more important than work.

Personally, I was off for about 3 weeks and communicated this with my counsellor. When I got back to work, I wanted to be as busy as possible, because I found that doing so kept my brain from thinking about it. The busier I got, the less time I had to feel sorry for myself. This might not be the best way for you to heal, but it’s a suggestion. As the weeks progress, you’ll find what works best for you and make sure you do it.

I know EY has a service called “EY Assist” that offers services, such as therapy, to employee. I encourage you to look into whether your firm offers similar services as they could be very helpful.

Sending lots of love your way! ❤️

Sorry for your loss

So, so so sorry for your loss. Take care of yourself first, that is the most important thing.

I’m so sorry for your loss. Please take care of yourself and take time as you need.

Very sorry for your loss. Nothing helps except time. Let yourself grieve but remember your mother or family is also grieving too. It helps to just be with family at this time to support each other. Take care of yourself and cherish each other.

I appreciate everyone’s condolences/experiences. It means more than y’all probably know.

Sending love ❤️

Should have said, some firms. Not someday

I’m also at RSM. Have you tried the counselor on call services? I lost my father in 2017, and I found it very helpful. You can get some free sessions, and it really, really helped me. I am so sorry for your loss.

Hello, what is working in retail banking like at JPMorgan Chase ? Specially the branch manager role. I’m looking in the Columbus area. How is pay, culture, benefits, sales environment, meetings, etc. How easy is it to transition from retail banking to corporate. I hear the Polaris campus has great opportunities, I was thinking about getting my foot in the door through retail then transferring to corporate ?

I’ve been getting invaluable experience at a boutique litigation firm. The only things is, the firm hasn’t evolved with work culture. The official policy is that everyone WFH one day each week with no choice of which day. Sometimes I’ll work from home more than one day a week and when I do, I feel paranoid because when I’m in the office, the partners will “walk the halls.” I would appreciate more flexibility and have a big law interview scheduled. Is this worth leaving? Btw, I’m a first year.
