I recently moved from a Tier 1 specialised boutique to a large U.S. BB and I just loath every single minute of my life now. Would it look weird if I quitted (been 2 months) and came back to the boutique ? I trust they would take me back but wonder about the messaging (e.g. I would look like a quitter who does not know what they want for themselves?)

I strongly recommend not doing this without thinking it through.

1. I assume you’re an analyst. Moving to a BB opens up far more options in finance. Are you sure it’s worth foreclosing them? Maybe power through for another 10 months?

2. You’ll have 0 bargaining power with the old firm if you go crawling back. You won’t be able to leave for a couple years and they might treat/pay you accordingly.

3. What exactly don’t you like? You can probably fix it.

Don’t do this unless you have a really good reason.

Powering through sounds like the right thing to do - thanks

“It just wasn’t a good fit” is a very good way to explain many life/personal/business decisions one doubles back on. And in this case sounds like that’s accurate? I as a hiring manager would give little doubt to the explanation if someone said that, and gave a little bit of explanation around it.

In a similar boat, but more so miss the boutique culture (entrepreneurial, eat what you kill, ability to co-invest, etc) than my previous firm. I’ve talked to recruiters who have advised to stick it out at least one year as leaving less than a year in is a red flag to most. Obviously if you quickly go straight back that’s explainable, but if your exit was anything like mine, that door may not still be open.

All, thanks for sharing answers, very helpful.
What I dislike about the BB:
- Even though joining recently I am under the impression it’s going to be very difficult to align with expectations and gain ownership
- Middle management from MBA / PhD backgrounds painful to work with
- Different teams working together on live deals or pitches do no seem to know how to really work together and collaborate efficiency
- Loads of 60 pages pitchbooks mainly consisting of profiles of firms and mini profiles of firms (likely will never be sold in the near future)
- Compliance is hell on earth

uplifting

Yes sounds good - thanks very much

Just read this post. Life is too short to have regrets man - just message them back. Tell them they're not culturally fit and don't align with your values or goals!

To anyone who has made the jump from paid social/search/programmatic to general paid acquisition marketing: How did you do it? I've been looking at paid media managerial roles (no room for growth at current work), but feel like I've pigeonholed myself into paid social.
I know the barebone basics of search and have 0 experience in programmatic, but a lot of managerial roles require some background in all three. Any help would be appreciated!

If anyone is thinking about going on flex time, I would highly recommend it. It might not work for everyone, but my experience has been a positive one. I took a 20% pay cut along with 20% reduced hours. I am able to support my family with that income and my firm respects my limited hours, but I still need to plan to make sure I can complete tasks in my reduced hours too. Anyways, if you like what you do, but don’t like the long hours and can take a pay cut, I would do it.

Looking for some advice on a couple of offers I have.

The first offer is for an Account Executive position at a smaller company with a base of $50k and another $20k in OTE.

The second offer is for a BDR position at a larger and faster growing company with a base of $60k and another $20k in OTE. Also some stock options but they aren’t public yet.

I have 2 YOE as a BDR and think I could succeed in either position. Both have hybrid work set ups. Any thoughts or advice is appreciated! Thanks.
