It’s a contract , you clearly stated you found the clause in the lease and now you don’t want to pay for it ? You are legally responsible paying it regardless if they billed it right when you moved out or a month later

Bold of you to assume I’m a guy. Your bias is showing

Did you receive a rent concession? Did you fulfill the terms required for a rent concession? You might be able to take advantage of the renter protections currently in place and not pay, but don't get salty if there are unforeseen consequences.

The leasing office quite literally sent me a document (that I signed) detailing my final invoice owed to the complex which included all itemized expenses that I was liable for. The property manager then continued to call me and say they forgot to include the additional rent concession and they needed to bill me for it. I argued that the final itemized invoice signed by both myself and the property manager should take precedence as in the lease it states “The tenant will be sent an invoice dated as the move out date which will detail all consideration owed to the lessor as of said date” (which mentioned no such rent concession). She then AGREED to waive the fee (quite literally a verbal amendment of the contract) and we hung up. Fast forward to a couple of days ago (when I made this post) and her boss called back claiming I signed the lease and it didn’t matter what the final invoice said or that they previously agreed to waive it. Hence why I asked fishbowl and got snarky remarks and unhelpful comments (from most) and here we are lol.

Oof, after reading thru OP's replies in this thread, I'm rooting for the landlord. OP is salty as hell🤣

Not in busy season because I’m busy all year 🙃 For not trolling OP, I’m a SM in Deals and tc will be 280+ depending on bonus pool. Had some generous partners and a few double referrals, otherwise comp would be 240’s. You break 300 as an experienced director. M&A and other specialty tax will likely hit ~300 at SM w/ t1 this year as they got some big raises. Non-accounting, Strategy& Manager tier 1 can touch 300. Thanks for coming to my Ted talk

You signed the contract. Pay what you owe. It’s been two weeks, not a year and a half.

likefunny

D1 You didn’t have to do him like that. 😂😂😂😂

So you don’t want to pay what you freely agreed to pay?

Thanks!

Lol tell the landlord he can get that $1200 off the roof. I’m telling you, don’t pay that. They screwed up by saying they “forgot” to bill you. I bet they won’t “forget” again.

smartlike

I agree. It’s not worth the time or money for landlords to go after such a small amount of money. Also you can usually find a lease violation or tenants rights violation and use it against them, that’s what I’ve always done.

Unfortunately they'll probably send you to collections if you don't pay

like

Which is where I’m located. I actually called them this morning and they said they were going to waive it since I had to pay almost $2500 in a lease cancellation fee already. They also said it’s hard to enforce since they didn’t have me sign the actual addendum that stated the clause when I first moved in 5 years ago

like

Just because you left doesn't mean you don't have to satisfy the lease. Annoying ya but you're on the hook and this is nothing out of ordinary. Pay up.

The contract is the contract. Though if you were in NY you could get away with not paying rent and say it’s because of covid.

like

Theyll sell it to collection and itll burn your credit for 7 years. Wont be big problem until you need to move again and find out that landlords and banks are really wary of people with unpaid rents.

like

KPMG 3 they were billing me based on an addendum to the lease that was in a completely separate document that I never signed (and quite frankly I think they just added a couple years AFTER I moved in but I can’t prove it). I don’t just shell out 1200 dollars to anyone who asks.. or I would have given $2400 out to your mom already lol

Tell them to contact BofA if they want their money.

💀 seen that coming

I’ve been with my company for 5 years and have never asked for a raise, I’ve accepted annual review we get without question. I’ve now realised I’m getting paid significantly less than the market rate. I’m getting job offers with almost 40% increase. I know my male peers at my company get paid significantly more than me. I love my job and my company but I don’t know how to ask for a raise 🙈 I know I deserve it but don’t know how to ask! Any guidance please ?

Is there a way to bypass the promotion policy of not being able to apply for jobs in 2 or more levels above your current level? Especially, if one joined the company at lowest level with over 8 years experience? Reason was, I took a career break for 6 years and to maximise my chance of getting back into the industry, I applied for a role I was almost guaranteed to get. I had hoped it would be easy to rise in ACN but was met with "you can't be promoted 2 levels above", cont'd in comments

I’m coming up on my manager promotion in the next couple months, but have gotten an IA Manager offer with great pay bump/yearly bonus/RSUs at a decent size public company. Role scope will be both SOX & Operations, will this be a good path to Controller/CFO? I don’t want to get stuck in IA forever, but I would think the level of operational experience would be good and pivoting out wouldn’t be too hard after a year or two. Thoughts?

I am approaching my first annual review (Marketing Specialist, first job after college) and I was told that I can expect a pay raise, title increase, etc. Although, I don’t know where I should put my expectations at. Thoughts on what to expect or how to build a case for my raise expectation (maybe $60k?) For context, SaaS company in TX, Salary: $54k and around three years of experience prior to graduation. So after researching my salary is very competitive compared to the market But the raises given aren’t inline with inflation, how do I justify that I deserve a higher raise to go up with the costs of living? Is is possible to ask for a raise just based on what I’ve seen on the market ? This past months many firms have contacted me and total comp is higher in general (for the same industry). Or do I need to have an offer letter in order to ask for the raise ?

I have been offered a lateral move within my company to a role I (believe) I will be more interested in that will suit my skills more. However, I’ve now been offered a promotion in my existing Role, and have heard that this is a pretty big deal and almost fast track to Director. Am I mad to pass up a promotion for a lateral move that is unlikely to promote me for some time?? I’ve been in my existing role almost 2yr. Will it affect my future growth? I’m 30 so would love to be a director soon

How do you ask for a raise when you are making far under market value and a big contributor at your agency?
