I recently read an article that talked about paying expenses like mortgage using a credit card (buy pre-paid Visa cards and then play using that) and is a way to get points and improve history. Has anyone tried this? If so, what is your experience?

If this is possible, instead of using a prepaid visa (a debit card), use PayPal Key (PPK) if you can. PPK is a PayPal debit card that you can link to a credit card to fund the transactions. For example, if the merchant requires a debit card, then you’d use your PPK card info to make the payment, and then PPK will use your linked CC to find the transaction and the $$ will be charged to your CC, thus getting you CC points. I use PPK for rent. The leasing company charges $5 for payment with a debit card, and 2.2% for payment with a CC. By using PPK, I come out ahead $25 in rewards/month just for paying rent. Make sure your bank accepts PPK though. I know AMEX stopped allowing PPK transactions, and some other banks code PPK charges as cash advances.

Do a test - Link PPK to a your Amazon account, and use PPK to load $1 on your Amazon gift card. See what happens.

For a lot of places paying rent or your mortgage with a pre-paid card and/or credit card comes with a fee that negates the points. Check with your lender first

like

A pre-paid card won’t get you points — it’s not associated with anything (I.e your credit history/credit cards). In the past I’ve paid my rent with a credit card to get points and increase my credit limit. Just ensure there isn’t a fee associated with using a credit card.

I think OP is referring to buying the prepaid cards at a merchant that will get you CC points, like grocery stores.

Going to be annoying when your card expires and you forgot to switch payments to the new card

I was so excited to get a good credit card to do this. Then I went to pay my rent and realized there was a huge fee for using a CC.

You can but most of the gift cards have an activation fee and if activation fee is less than the value of amount+ effort required to do that then you can do it

This is why you stock up on prepaid cards when places like Staples, Office Max, Safeway, and Kroger are running fee free sales or $15 off $300 in prepaid giftcards.

Life of non-immigrants depend on the Visa they hold and it’s so sad these companies don’t have a team where we can speak to someone immediately in case of a visa emergency situation . In EY you need to submit a form and wait for days together to get a reply from a human. Mean time you would have gone through 5 anxiety attacks.

Hi guys, I am due to start working at EY soon within audit. I will be commuting to the office by train when in the Birmingham office. This will be from Leicester. Usually if a commute is about 1.5 hours+, Mazars authorises hotels. Is there a similar policy at EY? When not in the office I would prefer to drive to clients, not sure if me being in Leicester affects whether they will tell me to suck up an extended commute? Would a mileage claim be from the office to the client? Thanks!
