I recently started a new position within the same health system, transferring from one department to another. I’ve worked in this health system for several years, and I had basically became a whole pro at the medical records system when it came to documenting in patient charts, scheduling, etc.
Since starting this new position, my training has been, unconventional. Because of a couple of errors I was placed on admin leave. Because of my “training”, several colleagues and I feel that this is………..

Unfair and discriminatory. While training, the person getting me acclimated was sharing a computer with me. When she was on it and showing me what to do, I repeatedly told her that while sitting behind her, I couldn’t see. It was already on record that I’m visually impaired along with another physical disability. I’ve been patient trying to give them time to set up my ADA accommodations. The person who’s been training me only started the job two months prior to me, and she admitted that she’s also still learning. I guess my question is do any of you agree that this seems to be unfairly and maybe discriminatory treatment since I’m still being trained or am I over-analyzing the situation?

If it is documented in your employee file that you have issues with vision and other disability, they are required to have equal accommodations for you as they do other employees. Keep track, document incidents should you need them to defend yourself in future, (shared computer)

You mentioned unable to see screen clearly while training. You are covered by Federal laws should they fire or demote you. Best of luck to you.

Very broad question here- but can you tell me what you do and if you like it? I’m a first year associate and I don’t like the practice areas I’m in right now. (PI plaintiffs- mostly med mal). I honestly am just not interested in going through medical records/deposing doctors for the rest of my career. I know I want to stay on the litigation side but that’s about it. I worked for an insurance defense firm in school and didn’t love that either. TIA!

Weird question: so, I come from defense side, but am currently working as a plaintiffs litigator. I have applied to a defense firm and I’m currently in the mix of finalists. Coincidentally, I happen to be opposing counsel in a case staffed by one of the firm’s partners. He and I have a good professional rapport and mutual respect. I don’t think he’s on the hiring committee, so I doubt that he’s aware of my candidacy at his firm. But I think he would be an excellent reference. Can I say anything?

I have been a phlebotomist for the last three and a half years with quest. I have over 20 years of experience. And have been trying to transfer to a different state. I believe that I am being blocked from my transfer even though my manager approves it on paper. Is there any way I can find this out. If I can't successfully transfer I may have to look for work outside of my current employer.

Very close to receiving a job offer for a fast growin start-up company related to dental. Started pricing apartments and will need an offer of about $135k to qualify for housing but anything I find for a salary reference says the company plays about 95k in SF - how do I justify my experience and drive to the company to show my value or is that too big of a wage gap to bridge?
