Hogan Lovell's has an M&A boot camp that's pretty good.
So for OP, what resources would you recommend that are akin to the HL course but available right now? I don’t suppose s/he can wait 9 months to take that course.
One thing that really helped me early on was to talk to accountants and CPAs to understand tax and accounting principles (and to read idiots guides to both). For example, I had an informational interview with a friend's mom, who is a CPA, and she gave me a stack of books to take home.
I also bought a few short reads on VC investing. Nothing crazy, just books that walked through deal terms and motivations (e.g., "Mastering Private Equity: Transformation via Venture Capital, Minority Investments and Buyouts" and "Venture Deals: Be Smarter Than Your Lawyer and Venture Capitalist").
Hope this helps!
Thank you! That’s super helpful.
If you have access to practical law
From west law I would search for documents or memos on your subject area and read them in your downtime.
PLI is also an amazing resource. They have lots of webinars and videos on demand for transactional topics. They usually include reading materials too. I think there’s a webinar called accounting for lawyers too that is great!
I have found a subscription to HBR pretty valuable. Have been reading for years, but I came from a business executive background before law school.
