Idk about con but if you are performing at a higher level you basically have to brag about it to everyone who will listen (manager(s), counselors, leadership, etc.). Validate that you really are performing at that level and tell them you are seeking promotion and opportunities that will provide that for you. Good luck!

Tell them very clearly. You conversation should be “I’m doing xyz now and want to be considered for promotion next promotion season. Is this in line with that progression?” And just tell leaders what you are owning, make sure that your manager is giving you credit on your deliverables.

I’m interviewing for a tech exit and one of the panel interviewers is an ex-Deloitte SM that is basically best friends with the partner I work under frequently. The ex-Deloitte SM said they wouldn’t mention that I’m interviewing to the partner. The hiring manager from the tech exit basically said I had the job if I want it. What are the chances the ex-Deloitte SM tells the partner and vetos my hire at the tech exit out of respect for their friend?
