If I refer someone and get the bonus I always take the person out for a nice lunch ($100 or so) to celebrate their new job.
If they keep pushing the whole expensive gift thing then start talking about splitting all future referral bonuses from people they refer. If you hadn't gotten them the job then they would never have had the opportunity to refer someone else and get a bonus...... if they keep pushing after that require that you get a portion of their bonus for subsequent referrals and a portion of the next persons referral bonuses, etc.
But him a nice lunch or dinner but remind him of the lovely healthcare, fitness subsidy, and salary he has..
The same thing happened with a guy I was dating. We stopped dating and I didn't even buy him dinner because he acted such an a@$ about the referral bonus. He'd been out of work for 2 years...that was your gift buddy!
Middle finger seems the most effective and least damaging route.
You got him a job. Tell him that's gift enough.
Wow, just wow!
"Dude I did you a favor and this is how you repay me? Good to know - no more favors in the future ...-asshole."
Typical Deloitte
Telling him to go fuck himself usually works
Ignore the implication each and every time, only take the bait if he outright asks. Make him actually say "you should buy me something nice since you got a bonus" and then burn him alive.
Take him to lunch.
Just trolling on by
@OP, this is why you need to do a lot more research before referring people. This kid sounds like an ungrateful moron!
Tell him he should get you something for getting him a job that pays so well. Otherwise, he should've happily stuck to his previous job
@D3, you're nuts bro
He's the one with now the $70k+ job, I think he owes you something expensive
Are we all just going to ignore the fact the random Fannie Mae poster... What.
That's your money. Keep it. He can go hint at whatever he or she wants . You are under no obligation to give him anything. And also after taxes you barely get anything anyway
Classic Deloitte
Haha, A2 what does that even mean? We're the world's largest consulting and advisory firm, what's typical here?
Are you two really close friends who always get each other gifts? If yes, maybe keep it under $50. If not, 🖕
$2k? Maybe take him to coffee if is he delivering your mail on time everyday. Lunch if he sorts out the junk.
