I regret not having done my MBA from an IVY League B school. I have seen industry and HR professionals being biased towards people from IIMs and so on. While I am currently doing decently well, I can't help feel bad for experiencing the bias in terms of promotions and CTC. Even the new/baby IIMs (some of which I have left to join my B school) are now given more importance. How can I offset this bias?

I’m in the same boat buddy, there’s no direct way of getting clear of this bias. I think it’s become essential to have another degree, MBA being the most common one. You’ll also get a chance to work with quite a lot of good firms (campus hiring’s advantage)

I have seen quite a few Directors and Partners who aren't from the top B Schools. So, I think, the bias is only prevalent during the initial years. It flattens out with seniority. Which B School did you go to?

How many years of experience do you have post MBA and what bias are you facing ? Not getting calls or what?!

In the same boat - even thinking of doing a second mba but scared on the return as im in my eatly thirtiea now

I can just say - have hope and try to become the best in what you are doing or be an expert of something! I started my career at X (9) and there was someone at 1.5X. we both did the same work day in day out, and my manager was able to see the potential in me. They fast tracked my promotion over the ivy college grad! I continued learning one skill and went to depth of it. I now earn 3.5X at 6 years experience, I changed my job twice though.

Eventually, nothing beats smart work. Be it Ivy League B school or something else. I am at executive level @ 15 YoE and don't have MBA. What I have is common sense, business understanding and Emotional intelligence. I understand people and connect with them + I am good at the technology I work on. Keep investing in Self, every single day make yourself better. Money is a side effect.
