I requested standing desk(with a Doctor's note), but was declined by HR and Office services, told it does not fit with their Hoteling policy. Anybody else went through this and can share thoughts.

EY provides "mobile desks" (which are basically their standing desk solution.) My boss has awful back problems, and they are happy to provide one through our hoteling services. I'm surprised your request was denied, especially when you had a doctors note. Seems like this could turn into an ADA issue. Did you mention that at all to HR?

like

Besides the fact that the first commenter is a total abusive jerk, I agree with EY 1. This sounds like a serious problem that they ignored a doctor's note.

The article is for employers, but still provides helpful information. If you really need the desk, I would go back to HR and suggest that the solution provided by office services is not viable under the ADA and I would ask for the request to be elevated to someone else.

like

I initiated my request through HR, and they sent it to local office services, which declined my request saying they will keep 2-3 standing desks on each floor. But don't use those desk for more than 15-20 mins. So basically not a useful solution. Looks like they want to skip expense of putting such desks for all and instead trying to give 3 standing desk between 80-100 people to share. Ridiculous cost saving thought.

like

Wow that is strange. I know people have PwC that have standing desks for health reasons. I would elevate, get a partner involved, etc. Your request is completely reasonable.

like

The requirement for ADA laws is reasonable accommodation. The correct way to go about it is to go though the proper channels where they request what you require for accommodation. Also, was it classified as a disability for you to have a standing desk or a doctor's recommendation? Hopefully you can come to an agreement with your office.

like

^^same. Two ppl on my team use standing desks so ur request shouldn't be denied

like

Then requezst to work from home if they xannot accomodate. If that doesnt work then mention ADA laws. Pretty sure they have to accomodate those that require wheel chair seating, whats the difference?

I bought my own varidesk, to be honest. A used one was $200. It sounds like the bigger issue is the fact that the hoteling situation is utterly unsustainable (I left my varidesk at the client site),

Get one of those kneeling chairs off amazon for like $100

Manager 1, why should he have to pay for that? Work should accommodate.
