In my experience this is very normal and drives me insane. I always wait on hold because I never get a call back.
It’s worse when it’s during your apt. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve shown up to doctors apt and had to wait multiple hours after my doctors apt to be seen. I can be sympathetic if that happens at my obgyn (maybe she had to rush to deliver a baby) but at least let me know and give me the option to reschedule.

This isn’t normal.
If i were in your shoes I wouldn’t make an appointment with this doctor. If the staff isn’t able to help you get an appointment on the first or second call, then that tells me a lot about how the practice is run. Is this the only doctor that specializes in what you need? See if you can find another one. I’d hate for you to have to see this particular doctor and have an unpleasant experience.
I experience this but live in a pretty highly populated city :(

This is the case for 90% of the medical appointments I schedule. I hate it so much.
I just want every employer to pay their staff well enough for them to care about providing a baseline level of customer service so the agony can stop.
The doctor I saw for my allergy patch testing was a total d***. Dude had no social skills. The office was nice tho!
Typically this testing is only done at major hospitals so there aren’t a lot of options unless you are in a major city that happens to have a few private practices. Good luck!
