Because everyone’s a VP

In finance the typical progression is Analyst, Associate, then VP. It's roughly equivalent to Junior Associate, Mid level Associate, and Senior Associate in law and progression is pretty much automatic with time. The next level is Manageing Director, which is a competitive cut and like making partner. Some firms have another level called participating Directors which is like making equity partner.

I would also add to the mix the title "Senior VP" which is roughly equivalent to Counsel/Of Counsel. Essentially someone with several years of experience but not able to make the cut to Manageing Director.
Not everyone, but like 50% of people on Wall Street have the VP title. Being VP means you’re not 25 anymore but nothing else.

Didn’t know that! I was wondering why I mentioned to someone that I have a friend who’s a VP at a bank and they looked at me like, “you sweet summer child,” 😂

I've heard that my whole career. Everyone is a VP.

How much do vps make (average range)?
Coach
Seriously depends on city and function. There are VPs in front office at Goldman taking home more than 500K but as a VP at some ops team in Vancouver, you’re lucky to make 150K
