For an MD? From industry? I’d expect to get crushed a bit as I find my way.
Manageable . Just set boundaries and manage your time
Late nights and weekends but it’s a different type of work. They’ll be on calls they can pay half attention to and share their POV while cooking their family dinner or driving kids to practice/games. As “executives” they aren’t expected to be in front of their computer for that time, just sharing their guidance / POV to shape the work.
Depends heavily on operating portfolio, but most don’t have to work on weekends. M&A consumes all waking hours of the weekdays, including many Fridays. Tech transformations can differ wildly from 40 hour weeks to 60 hour weeks with many teams having to do either early or late calls with india. Strategy varies wildly as well but is generally slightly more hours that tech transformations. To give you more info, we’d need to know what type of work she’ll be doing.
I was just going to commend you! This seems like the most accurate summarization across offerings I’ve seen. And with some confidence
My Deloitte practice has a no weekends policy and at that level you can pretty much set your own hours
Wlb is an oxymoron .All the best to your friend though:)
Thanks for the responses. She already works non stop and I’m afraid she is going to push even harder now.
D will take as much as you can give it. I’ve learned to put up boundaries and say I’m not available before/after X hours and on PTO, but I see many of my peers don’t learn that lesson and burn out. If you don’t put up walls, it’s incredibly easy to just pour hours and hours into client work and firm initiatives that never actually end unless you decide you’ve done enough work on it for now. People with your friend’s personality can easily wind up working 70+ hour weeks regularly by over committing and giving too much, and especially as a new hire who needs to learn the firm and network on top of that, I would worry about her too.
