I love my job and every minute of it!
Hi Applied to PwC Strategy& for a consultant role and havent heard back from a recuiter however, I received an email for a survey asking what am I looking for in the company in terms of their culture, values etc and what other companies I have applied to. Is this a typical process? Not sure if thats the step 1 in the process or I have been rejected. Any feed back is appreciated. I am graduating from Ohio State with an MBA and have 8 years of experience in corporate accounting and finance.

Nah, we’ll be back to it before too long. People have short term memories. Although I do believe many more companies will accommodate increased telework after all this for their own employees
Absolutely. This pandemic is proving that we are in a position to shift work remotely much more than before.
No. I'm a social animal.
There will likely be less travel but the skepticism around working from home will remain, especially given that people have been finding it less productive than an office environment
Rising Star
Exactly. Parents are having to do fulltime childcare for the younger ones and be fulltime teachers for the older ones, all while still doing their job
I think its going to shift perceptions from 'why arent you in the office' towards 'when SHOULD you be in the office'.
Theres a lot of scheduling and optimizing behind that, but for many clients I think this has broken the outdated perception of physical presence == business value.
I agree. I think our clients are seeing that they don’t have to incur all those travel expenses. So will be questioning the need to travel a bit more.
It all boils down to the bottom line- whatever is most profitable.
I’m hoping it becomes more of an option for those who choose (won’t be me). But at least for my current clients, the online interface is not even close to being the same.

Yes. Staff will want to stay home for better wlb and firms will realize they don’t need to spend as much money on office space that is consistently under utilized.
People in consulting tend to vastly underestimate the rigidity of most corporations. Not a single one of my friends has the ability to work from home on a wim as I do (travel permitting of course). Already they’ve mentioned their bosses saying that they could see this being long term if they wish
Pro
No. Humans are social animals. We are more creative convivial and collaborative when we are together. Sure, some roles (mostly simple “jobs”) can be farmed-our to home workers, but the core of any function will always be together.

No, and it better not be. Let's all assume it won't so it doesn't come to that. Working from home is a lonely prison.

You’re young in your career, but you’ll find out you’ll never be able to use those points as often as you would like. And travel? It’s airport, client site, hotel, airport then home every week. That’s not real traveling; just an exceptionally shitty commute to work.
As for the stress, think about all the wasted hours you spend traveling, delays, team dinners you want to skip, lonely nights working in a hotel room. You don’t deal with any of that when you can work from home. All those wasted hours can be used very efficiently to get shit done.
Your perspective on work from home is skewed by the fact there is a quarantine in place. And yeah it can be very lonely if you’re stuck indoors all the time. But I worked from home full time for 3 years and it was great. Imagine what you’re doing now, but without a quarantine. You can go out, see family and friends, have a life, and still get paid very well.
I hope that the new normal becomes a mix of in office, especially for more collaborative days and projects and also the option for WFH without stigma. I myself, especially when I need to get a lot of tasks done find so much value in working from home. Not to mention commuting to the office less is a bit more economical in the long run and could also lay the way for potentially more professional enhancement things like taking a class, or if you’re deciding to visit family and have flexibility in working remotely. I think before this unfortunately WFH and even taking sick days had a stigma attached that will hopefully go away now

It depends on what makes the company the most $. Savings on rent vs productivity (perceived or real). But it’s also a great opportunity to attract talent that many corporations would lose out on due to geography. So I hope they become more flexibility. Just a cynic who doesn’t think it’ll happen unless $ demands it.

Nope. 😭
You didn’t hear... apparently there’s a second wave of covid coming. Better to stay at home before that shit hits
Rising Star
No. Things will go back to normal.
There are companies that have security concerns with their own employees WFH, let alone contractors/consultants. There are clients who dropped consultants not because of no work or bad performance, but because of security concerns with proprietary information or just general culture. Those clients will return to the on-site expectation post-COVID and firms will go along with it because money.
That said, hopefully for the majority of clients there is a shift towards flexibility where weekly onsite isn’t an absolute requirement.
Rising Star
I can see travel decreasing in some contexts where remote meetings work just as well
My client for one is actually already on an initiative to kick contractors out of their offices. Post COVID we can expect to either wfh or work from firm offices.
Yes. It’s going to be a long time before our clients let us back in
