I see a lot of remote jobs in sales. Question is if it doesn’t matter where you live how do you get the relationship needed to close deals just talking on the phone or zoom?

A lot of sales jobs can be done via computer or phone, it just depends on the product. For some things, of course, personal visits may be necessary, and a personal connection may matter a lot. I suspect a lot of jobs will never go totally remote for those reasons. But an advantage is that if you can make it selling remotely, you have a lot of options available to you.

Why would your location have anything to do with closing a sale? It’s 2024; mostly everyone is used to everything being virtual. You need to have a very professional and trustworthy personality/voice but it shouldn’t really make much difference in person vs. remote. Honestly, the less they have to go of their own biases the better chance you have so over the phone is my preference. (For example, if someone doesn’t like tattoos they won’t be able to use that as a reason to not trust you/buy from you if they can’t see them)

I think the world has adapted to this situation where virtual calls are sufficient. Most of us have managed

Went on a final interview today and the interviewer yawned through my presentation, was so BRUTAL with feedback, and was just super low-energy. Up until this point, everyone that I interviewed with said the presentation was great, but some things that need improvement. I just don’t understand how it’s normal that it’s expected that you make presentations and work for free— just to have someone take a huge shit on you.

Has anyone ended up working for a prospect?

I just had a conversation with a CEO at a startup I admire, and the topic turned to sales hires. My jaw dropped at the comp numbers and I also really love the product, their selling philosophy (buyer centric, empathetic ; less volume based), and I feel like the CEO is an extremely empathetic bit straight forward person.

I'm considering throwing my hat in the ring for consideration, at the same time I've got a sales motion going on - any tips?

Hello, first post here. Outside sales, merchant services/card processing. I’m primarily a welder but I work 4 10-hour shifts typically then I try sales the last three days. I’ve done it long enough to where I’m confident and comfortable going to new businesses, establishing some rapport with business owners. But it seems like a lot of businesses see this as a waste of time, even adding services and cutting costs. I guess either I’m looking for advice or considering not doing this anymore.

Inflation costs are killing my pipeline. Many of my deals are scaling back greatly because of their rising operating costs.

How do we overcome the inflation objection? I mean obviously the answer is to show how much value we offer, but how do we do that when all of the companies we work with barely have enough funding?

They need our services, which is at least some job security, but their scale back is greatly affecting our projections and quota attainment.
