I see a very faint second line testing on the day of my period.. low key freaking out because in the last week on vacation I have dyed my hair with balayage, eaten sushi, drank a beer or cocktail with dinner every night and had two cups of coffee every morning. Obviously ceasing all of this but have I already caused damage?

I went to 3 bachelorette parties before realizing I was pregnant with my first (lots of heavy drinking, sushi, coffee, one I went horseback riding, also had gotten botox..). He is a perfectly healthy, very smart 2.5 year old

Same! One bachelorette party and one destination wedding before realizing I was pregnant with our surprise #2! My doc told me at that early stage, it’s just a collection of cells that are going to just keep multiplying. The “damage” can come as bodily systems are trying to form, if something messes that up. But you’re far away from that stage. Also fwiw, sushi was the only form of protein I could eat for months with #1 - I had bad morning sickness and craved only sushi. Doc said as long as it’s super fresh, she’s fine with it.

Sounds like how my husband and I first conceived, and the second time, and perhaps the third. You have nothing to worry about - I’d be more afraid of genetics than anything

Baby has a snack pack lunch they brought with them the first few weeks. So you are fine. Just try to stay away from it now if you end up getting a positive.

likefunny

Snack pack! 😂

funny

No, you and the baby are fine. My first was a surprise and I went to my doctor all freaked out and he said not to worry unless I had done a lot of hard street drugs.

Please check out this book Expecting Better by Emily Oster. She's an economist and mother of 2. In the book, she talks about all the things we're told to freak out about (e.g., sushi and coffee consumption) and how based on studies there's no need to freak out. Her follow-up book Cribsheet is also fantastic for early postpartum life.

Loved this book. It gave me a piece of mind and helped to get rid of some pressure that I put on myself. ✅

You don’t share a blood supply with baby yet. None of these things would have impacted baby in the slightest. No worries mama and congrats!

like

Yes! This is why they say you can “drink until it’s (the pregnancy test) pink.” Congrats, OP!

Doing these things you mentioned while pregnant are not a big deal. Drop the booze and only get sushi from places you trust. Keep the coffee and hair color.

like

Ditto recommendation for Expecting Better. I have done all of these things while actually pregnant (3rd trimester, but still) and have zero concern. Toxins you absorb on a daily basis from living your life are worse than any hair dye (and balayage barely touches your scalp) , I’m assuming you ate decent quality sushi, and the the baby isn’t even attached to you through the umbilical cord yet to absorb that booze. You’re good, girl! Also ditto that genetics are way more influential - definitely recommend the NIPT for most significant peace of mind. And CONGRATS!

Placenta hasn’t even begun to attach. You’re fine. Just change you’re behavior now going forward.

I basically did all those things throughout my both of my entire pregnancies and have two healthy kids to show for it, don’t stress!

No you’re fine

Omg so glad to see this post and the responses (even though this would be my second) as I def ate a gummy this week and then a few days later it’s been positive tests the past 3 days ... when my period should’ve been

I will also say, with my first, before I knew, I raged for a week in vegas 🤣 and my son is aok

Thanks everyone this is great

I also got the JJ vaccine three weeks ago 😬

That’s a good thing though probably even better to get it while pregnant.

The owners of our company like to do a holiday handout at Thanksgiving each year. They used to do a whole Thanksgiving meal (turkey, stuffing, sweet potatoes, pie). Last year there was a lack of available turkeys in the quantity we needed, so we switched it up and did a bottle of sparkling cider with a $25 gift card. This year the owners want to do something different but they are not sure what. Does anyone have any suggestions? We have about 300 employees in one location. Thanks!!

Hello all! Changing from Vacation and Sick Time to just plain PTO starting in Jan. Staff can save up to 40hrs of their accrued Sick Time banks to use in 2022 in addition to their new PTO. We have a part-time employee with more than 40 sick hours who will try to use as much of their Sick Time as they can before Jan 1. If this person has an avg weekly schedule of 17.5 hrs, can we stop them using sick time if their sick + work time will take them over their 17.5 scheduled hours? Thanks!!

If you give notice on the bench are you usually shown the door? Or do they let you ride out the 2 weeks?
