I specialize heavily in 401k audits during the summer. I’ve done between 8-12 every year for the last 5 years, and supervised several. Any firms you know of that also have a niche in 401k audits?

You actually want to do more of these?? God bless you. And I second that mostly all midtiers do these all summer

likefunny

pretty much every mid tier does them all summer long, no?

If you are interested in specializing solely in benefit plan audits, there are some boutique firms in various cities across the country that do this. They are profitable firms. I know one in LA if you are interested...DM me if so.

That is just second to Sox as far as boring goes

Wouldn’t say passionate lol, just experienced and valuable

Moss Adams does over 1,500 employee benefit plan audits per year. What area of the country do you want to work in?

like

Agree with MA1, Moss has a very large EBP practice and you pretty much have your pick of what area you want to live/work in. I'm personally not a fan of EBP audits and try to avoid them, but even at my office (SoCal/Phoenix region) pretty much everyone does at least 1 to 3 during summer in-between our bigger clients. I know some seniors and staff that do nothing but those all summer as well, so lots of opportunity!

like

Just wanted to know why everyone hates benefit plans 😂aren’t they a good summer job? No?

like

Better than dealing with accounting people who totally clueless and have a much bigger job to do

It often depends on size of firm and region. Depending on where you are located, a super regional firm is likely a good option.

like

Weaver does a lot of EBPs

like

Eide bailly also does a ton of benefit plan audits. Check them out if they’re in your area, great firm to work for.

like

Agreed to both points. I’ve worked on 6 EBPs so far this summer, with one more at the end of this month. Decent jobs to stay busy with during slow times without making me want to pull my hair out

like

pkfod has a pretty good 401k audit team

Agreed

BKD has one of the largest practices.. they do about 1700-1800/year

Started a new job back in January. Creative Director, a team of 7. Went back & fourth in negotiating. Offered 110k. Asked for 120k, settled on 115k. I even threw in that I was taking a hit with benefits, needing to pay 5k more as compared to my position I was leaving. That’s how I got it to 115k. At my annual I plan to address again, in partnership with the impact this position will have made this past year. What do other creative directors earn, if you don’t mind sharing? Industry av says 136k

When it comes to the digitization of healthcare, how important is it to have tech exp vs. healthcare exp? I understand it’s ideal to have both, but healthcare seems so far behind other industries. Is it better to go into tech for a few years and then go back to healthcare and try to become a change agent?

Been at my company since 2016 after graduating from graphic design. I might be a little underpaid but benefits are good. I guess this is a testament as to how a huge pay isn't always the only thing to look out for. I may be wrong but it's worked for me ever since.

What professions could I do or start 41F. In healthcare now and thinking of doing an MBA.

Over 20 plus years with this company my base pay has gone up every couple of years. The biggest growth in my salary has come as a "Bonus pd 1x/yr" which now is over 50% of my cash compensation. Base plus bonus plus benefits is on the Lower half of my industry Salary Value from talking to industry colleagues.

I may have an opportunity for a new position with another company starting around the first of the new year. My concern is that the "bonus" is not paid until March. What to do?

What are peoples thoughts on two different career paths within public accounting. One is the typical longer hours like 55 hours or more during busy season and the other one is 40 hours a week all year long with a reduced salary, almost like a reduced schedule employee. The reduced hour career path allows you to enjoy whatever you enjoy about public without the long hours but your career progression will be similar to industry and the other path is pretty much what it is now. Thoughts?

Why couldn’t that have waited. Is it not an acceptable boundary to expect to be left alone when on PTO? How do I properly communicate that to a level above without it coming across badly?
