I spent almost 2 years trying to leave ID to get into labor and employment. Now that I'm in L&E, I think I almost miss ID. I'm not sure if it's because of my current firm, but I miss doing something I knew how to do, knew what to expect, and always had a steady flow of work.

How fast you would hate it again if you went back.

like

Probably fast. Not sure if I'm realizing L&E isn't for me but worried to switch into another practice area.

like

What kind of L&E are you doing? I love L&E. It’s a broad field, so maybe you can find a different subset that would be a better fit.

I do a lot of Title VII mostly. Some ADA, FLSA, and counseling work. I think the issue is that my firm has me take such a passive role in cases whereas in ID I ran my cases.

like

That’s me as I moved from lit to M&A . I constantly complained to my friends how much I hated my last job. Now I miss it as, like you, I miss knowing exactly what to do, how to do it and feeling competent

A3 4th year. It’s incredibly boring frankly. Due diligence is far worse than discovery

What were you doing before in ID?

MVA and first party property

What firm?

A very small one

How long have you been doing it? I went from commercial lit and FINRA to L&E and it took me a good 1.5 years or so to “get it.”

That is good to know thank you

What is ID?

Insurance Defense, I believe.

How do y’all handle attorneys fees award in your retention agreements? Right now I have it as basically a bonus in addition to the contingency, but I have a potential client asking that it be deducted from the gross amount for purposes of calculating the contingency.

My thing is, the fight for attorneys fees is a huge fight in and of itself (not to mention rarely awarded). What incentive do I have to fight for a fee award if I’m not really benefiting from it??

Hey guyss ! So I’m a freight broker for a start-up company making 50k base with a $800 bonus every month. My numbers are great , and I always hit my quotas , but I can’t help but to feel like I’m being taken advantage of. Do you guys know of any other companies that are in the same or similar industry that pays more. The benefits are more than fine but I don’t make commission and it behooves me how I make the company an extra 10-20k a week but don’t see anything off it really.

Am I making enough profit for my firm?

I became a 2 year lawyer in September. I started working at my firm, a mid-sized firm practicing commercial business litigation and PI, in March of 2020. Last year I made the firm $180k from my billable hours and I was paid $85k + full health and other benefits.

This year, I'm on track to make about $150k and to make the firm about $450k from my billable hours and PI cases that I originated and settled.

Trying to do right for my firm. I'm treated well.

I was indirectly accused of fabricating a document. The exact words are "we cannot confirm the accuracy of this document as the letter was returned undeliverable"

I received the document from the author via email and have all the proof. In my brief should I just submit the email and leave it alone. Or should I spend more time hammering them on it?

Giving notice this week…logistics require this to be done over a phone call. Will be the most recent of several associates who’ve given notice within the past 2 months (smaller firm).
