I started a job in June with a small staffing agency as a business development manager. I find jobs to staff. My base salary is okay, with no benefits, and much less than I’m used to making. I draw commission based upon monthly sales over $4000. The problem is, our markup is 60%. I feel like that’s really high, & so do prospective clients. That makes earning commission difficult. What are “normal” markup rates? Am I even going to be able to be competitive? TYIA for any feedback!

I used to work in staffing and 60% for day labor in manufacturing is on par but there are more factors to look at. What is the tax and burden rate in the places you sell too, are you the only staffing company providing or multiple? If you can get them to agree to exclusivity that would mean consistent business, and could warrant a lower markup. Industry standards when I was working we had lots competition for LID work and would price large accounts from 35-47% and small accounts at that 60% rate.

What industry?

We mostly staff blue collar daily and weekly labor. Some temp to perm, but still blue collar. Warehouse, waste management, housekeeping, and the like.

Hi fishes good evening. I joined CapG on 26th may 2021 as a Associate consultant.  Till this date i got appraisal as well as promotion also.
But this is not sufficient  for a 5 year experience Data Engineer. So i resigned on 12 th june 2022. My current CTC is 9 lpa and i asked them 15lpa for retain. Everything is fine from my Capgemini manager and client manager. Only i am expecting HR Call and that will happen next week as my manager said. Any suggestion what will be next CTC ? Thanks All

Backstory: started with a company back in July. Negotiated a very competitive salary package, I was able to work out a guarantee to take a draw for the first 6 months until I get ramped. But I have yet to make any real impact for the company within the first 10 weeks. I feel terrible for taking “commissions that I didn’t earn or show any progress”. Would I be an idiot to talk to my vp and say don’t pay my commission until it’s earned?

1st Job - 90k…. Is this a good salary? Late to the game at 34. Don’t even know anything about personal finance. Basically feeling like an 18 year old over here with no knowledge of how to run my own life.
