I started a new job at the end of September and now have an offer from another company. It’s a 13% raise. I don’t really like what I’m doing now and my current role doesn’t have the potential for growth in the future. I’m concerned that I won’t like the new job either. I’m doing corporate tax now and the new position is back office work for portfolio companies/funds. I need advice. My current position I have great work life balance but I’m not getting paid enough and don’t really like tax.

If you don’t like it and there isn’t good career development, then leave! Don’t feel guilty because you haven’t been there long.

A lot of times when you’re miserable, you settle for a job you don’t particularly care for just because your miserable. Sometimes it can be good to look when you’re not running away from something because you have a level head.

Hi girls,

I joined the current company when I was about 2 months pregnant and they were extremely welcoming.. My baby is now 2+ years and we are planning to have another baby soon. What are your views on opting for the maternity leaves 2nd time within 3.5 years of joining the company? Would it reflect badly on me? Btw, I'm a high perfomer at my company and have also had a promotion recently. I am feeling too guilty but baby no.2 is also a priority given the age factor and the fertility concerns

Am I crazy to take a pay cut to “chase my dream”? Manager looking to leave Bain - I want to do corporate sustainability - I got an offer for a traditional corp strategy job at $195k base, $23k bonus (no longer-term incentives aka no equity / profit sharing), so similar to current comp except for NAP, but am hoping something sustainability-related comes through. Right now in talks for a sustainability director role that would be closer to $160k base / $20k bonus. (More in comments)

What are your thoughts about having to take an iq/personality assessment tests? It seems so outdated to me. I don’t think it predicts how you will truly perform at a job. I took a test like this for a startup once and they were concerned about my ability to speak up or behave in social settings. This was completely false. I present, interview clients, demo products, and facilitate meetings for a living. So what if I go home and shut down after work? I’m exhausted from speaking all day!

Looking for advice on career change. I’m a 45 year old single mom - I’ve been at my job for 18 years. I know I could be doing more. The job isn’t fulfilling and the workplace is rather toxic. The pay is pretty good - when I look at other open positions in my field / the pay is much less or the same. Honestly just unsure of what I “want” to do. Stay where I am and get a side hustle that may be fulfilling or change careers altogether. I’m a placement coordinator at a home care agency.
