I started a new job in January and have performed well. The person who is a step above me in organizational hierarchy is leaving and my director has recommended me to take the vacant position. This of course comes with more administrative responsibilities along with the work I am currently doing. Director says he will suggest a 10k pay raise, but I believe the added responsibilities should be worth more. Am I wrong asking for 5k more?

No, always ask for more / negotiate. It’s expected.

Ask for more. If you're able to get any information on what the previous person in the position was being paid, do so. Also do some market research on average pay for your position in your location to back up your request.

You definitely aren't wrong. Whether you get it or not I think it's always the smart move to ask, especially if you have evidence or reason to believe you're worth more.

Always ask for more. The worst they can say is no. I always always negotiate.
