Honestly if you have an opportunity, jump. I’m helping my firm look for a new associate, and I wouldn’t bat an eye at someone staying only 6 months at a firm, so long as they had a legitimate explanation.

I left after 6 months and landed at a much better firm.

Start looking and get out asap i had a similar experience and it ended up to be a total nightmare they churned through associates every 6 months or so and would just fire people whenever they wanted. For so little money and such a disparity in hours you can do better.

Same exact here. Took a pay cut because I was promised a better WLB and ability to argue motions as a junior. Billed 200hrs each month, have yet to argue a motion. It’s been 4 months. I’m looking to jump ship

Hahaha this! Im looking at billing at an average of 220-250 a month.

I really hit it off with an EDNY judge but she only had a spot for 2022-2023, so I went back to my firm June 2021 and will start EDNY sept 2022. Partners - have your firms ever considered moving to a flat fee/success fee model? It seems it could alleviate a lot of the “law firm culture” struggles (because you could place more value on great work product and efficiency vs number of hours billed) while still preserving profits (if set at the right prices). Clients may prefer clear pricing too. Thoughts?
