I started interviewing with a company back in January but they were taking while to make a decision so I put them out of my mind. Fast forward to last week and I found out that I’m newly pregnant. Now, I was offered the job. I don’t know what to do! I hate my current job and this new company seems like a better fit. Do I tell them before I accept the role? I know it’s very early and anything could happen with this pregnancy but I’m torn. Advice would be so helpful!

Just say Yes to the new job It’s a simple calculus Stay and be miserable with a new baby or leave to a company that you may like and probably will be more than welcoming to you and your growing family My humble opinion.

I wouldn’t share, it’s a personal thing I would wait until you felt more confident and then share that you are expecting

Newly pregnant is a lot for you and your family to take in. If you have an offer then review the benefits and ask pointed questions. If you don't vibe with the answers decline but give them a chance to tell you more before you share your status. Im heading out on leave after just starting my job 90 days ago. At least you'll have your full pregnancy there and each month you can plan for your leave so there's no surprises. Don't let it stop you from taking an opportunity. Mat leave is weeks long and they should want to build a relationship with you that's years long.

That last sentence sums it up perfectly - Couldn't have said it better myself

This is not something you need to disclose. If you won’t be able to fulfill the job responsibilities, then it sounds like you would just decline the offer.

Congratulations on your new job and baby! 🍼

Just ask for their benefits policies. I would hate if you’re not eligible for their maternity leave If you haven’t been employed a year (e.g., need to work 1250 hours to be eligible for FMLA)

I would take the role. We (Wayfair) had a number of new managers come onboard either as newly pregnant or coming up on their due date and it was received well. They have a job waiting for them when they come back and are supported. I would accept the offer and relay the news when you feel comfortable. Until you go out on leave just continue to make a positive impact and develop a strong culture so that your return is smooth! Congratulations, by the way!

No need to disclose. If they think you’re a good fit and capable at the job then being pregnant is irrelevant. Congrats!

We had an opening for a role that was really important to us (this was about 6 years ago). We selected an amazing candidate. She accepted. 2 days later she found out she was expecting. It didn’t matter to us. We were thrilled for her and she was an amazing addition to our team. She told her manager her first week that she just found out she was pregnant and the rest of us at 3 months. There’s no obligation to tell anyone yet. Do what is vest for you and your family long term. If this organization is everything you believe it to be, your pregnancy will be exciting to them and they will work with you.

I started my last job 6 months pregnant (that baby is almost 4 years old now). Similar to your situation, I had interviewed before I was pregnant, was anticipating an offer but their priorities changed and I put it out of mind. Then I got pregnant and they reached back out months later with an offer. I was torn bc I had no protection under FMLA if I started a new job and give birth 3 months later. I also did not qualify for anything but STD - 6 weeks at like $130/week. It sucked but I was miserable at my job, no growth opportunities and I took the risk. It was ultimately the right move, although in hindsight I would have focused my negotiations on salary rather than trying to get them to agree to some additional maternity leave (they didn't ). Happy to connect over PM if you have more questions.

And if you’re high on the base salary side...see what you can do about a decent signing bonus. That may help a bit with the time off.

To start, congratulations on the baby and potentially a new job!

There's already lots of great advice here. One thing I would add is to ask about the new companies maternity leave policy. Some companies restrict maternity leave until you're there for XYZ number of months (usually 6-12), and I'd hate to see anyone get caught in that situation after accepting a new job. Regardless, congratulations and keep us updated!

Be honest with them - the fact that you are pregnant should not be a reason to hire you. Good luck on both events

I wouldn’t share. You are under no obligation to divulge anything. It’s not misleading. It’s the law.

like

So a couple of things to think about...depending on where you live you may not be covered under FMLA leave and your position could not be protected since you will be there under a year. Also, check on their maternity leave policies to confirm if & what is offered. If you have a written offer, you can disclose but it is not necessary.

like

Accept the position and you can also let them know your news. They made the offer and cannot rescind it because you are pregnant. Believing in complete transparency they should appreciate your honesty.

like

No need to share and I suggest accepting if you’re interested.

Same thing happened to me. I told them prior to accepting. I wanted to start off relationship with honesty and transparency.

Do not share that you are pregnant. Onboard, wait a month to prove yourself a hood worker and THEN tell them. It’ll protect you legally from wrongful termination

Take the job however I would suggest that you are truthful with them from the beginning. You will have a feel for the company’s culture through their reaction. I wish you all the best!

Moms, I’m desperately looking for ideas to get my 3.5 month baby to take bottles. For the first few weeks of her life, we struggled with her weight gain, bc she always fell asleep before a full feeding. So I switched to primarily pumping and giving her bottles both day and night. Her weight gain took off, since we can see how much she ate and kept at it till she finished the bottle. Since she was 11 weeks old, she started to hating bottles, but eventually would finish the bottles in an hour. Con
