I started working in patent law earlier this year and I am struggling to say the least. Does anyone have any tips on reducing errors and getting a better handle on IDS? Coming from a foreclosure background where I didn't deal with my billing or filing, now having to do both.

Patent law, and especially IDSes, have a pretty steep learning curve for people with no prior experience. It took me about six months to feel like I understood the language of patent law when I first started. I'd say just give it some more time. You're definitely not alone in how you feel, all my work friends were very overwhelmed at first.

I have been in intellectual property for 20 something years. It takes a long time to catch on when learning patent law. Give it time and one day it will just click.

My advice is to take your time, and review your work instead of trying to get it done super fast. A lot of new assistants try to get it done fast, but it ends up in a lot of mistakes. I have bought books written for the patent assistant to help me as well. It takes time but you will get there.

Experienced attorney here. Go slow, be correct. You get faster over time, but you only get better if you give yourself time to learn what right looks like. I would MUCH rather have an accurate assistant than a fast one. IDSs are just a pain, and I appreciate you for doing them. If you have specific questions, I'll try to keep an eye out for your reply.

Feeling so down right now…I spent months trying to get into a tech company. And when I finally got in, I was then laid off two months into the job. This past month, I applied to 300+ jobs and had 30+ interviews. None of them led to offers due to hiring freezes or internal hires. I just went through 10 interviews with a non-tech company and I don’t know if I will get an offer. I am just so tired of everything. If anyone knows of any PM roles (hardware/software), please let me know. YOE: 2
