I studied computer science in school but I didn’t do well due to life coming in the way. I got poor grades but ultimately finished my degree without any internship experience.

After three months of job search, I started for 45K at a construction company as a Jr App Support. After a year I shifted in to QA for 65k and now after a year of QA, I have finally gotten a position as a software engineer for 78K base.

The imposter syndrome is finally gone!

Hang in there, hard work pays off.

Thanks for sharing your experience! I’m in support and looking to pivot into QA. Can you share any tips or things you wish you knew prior to starting that role? How code heavy was it? Thanks!

It really depends what kind of testing you sign up for. There’s front end and then there’s automation. I got stuck with front end which is all manual testing and requires no coding at all. Automation is code heavy.

Ex-big 4. Now at a smaller consulting firm at $250k base and I’m not in a major city and no mortgage or debts. I’ve been looking to move to FAANG but I guess I’m just not technical/lucky enough. Yes, there’s a pay cut but my current company is not a major name. What would you do? Keep trying for FAANG or move to SN even if it’s consulting? THX

I’d appreciate any advice on this issue.

401k loan for first house. Taking $20k to go towards down payment and closing costs. Option 1 is a “personal loan” with up to 72 month payback. Option 2 is “home loan” up to 30 years. Hey all!

I have 2 job offers and need to make a decision by the end of the week, for a data analyst position.

Company A base salary 90k
Company B base salary 95k

During the hiring process I mentioned to company A my salary expectation (80k~90k) and this is the company I would like to join.

I do not know if I should mention to company A that I got another offer for 95k and negotiate the base salary.

Any thoughts?
