Similar to my story. When you say you're joining the military everyone thinks there is some cosmically important meaning behind it, like the origin story of a hero or something, when really it's usually a combination of being bored with your everyday life and not wanting to live with your parents until you die. Yet we all end up different because of it. Stronger, more focused, with a greater sense of responsibility. I guess that's why parents back in the day would threaten to send their kids to military school
Service isn't without its drawbacks, but I agree. It shaped me into a person I'm proud of and would have never become without it.
For sure, the military will grow you up in a hurry. We only grow when we have to, I think, and this is the time to do it.
I've had so many experiences in the military that I never would have had otherwise, my friends in high school are still back home flipping burgers. This life isn't for everyone but it sure does have its benefits. I haven't cooked anything in over a year. And I hate cooking, hahaha
