Your loyalty is to yourself and your family. Not a company. Don’t stress too much.
It’ll get easier! My last manager was outraged when I put my 2 weeks notice in and she was the one that ended up crying. She often talked about her loyalty to the company which is great but I’m
loyal to my family first so if an opportunity will provide a better standard of living for us then I’m going with that🤷🏾♀️
They tried to tell me I was REQUIRED to give them 4 weeks notice or I’d be ineligible for rehire and I said OK well BYE ✌🏾🤣
It’s good you left! Family first, for sure! How do you like working at Boeing? I’ve been thinking about a career shift and have applied, but never hear back. What kind of jobs there could a current teacher possibly get hired into? I applied to procurement previously.

Yeah I thought I had lifelong mentors at my first firm and as soon as I left, I was dead to them. Just a reminder to do what’s best for you and your family
Same! Was a hard pill to swallow but an important lesson to be learned.
Mentor
They are reinforcing that you made the right decision to leave.
Congrats on your new job.
Just a note to self…
I hate it when people talk about how people should be loyal to companies when companies don’t show any loyalty to employees. Let’s get it straight: this is not the 1950s where people spend all their lives working somewhere and then sit back enjoy a sweet pension. What we have today are business transactions. Employees provide a service and they are paid for it. That is all there is to it.
Look out for yourself first because nobody else can or will do that for you. You got this! Enjoy the new job and forget about this person who is being ridiculous.
A true mentor would’ve supported you. That person wasn’t a mentor, they were pretending, but really they were self-serving. I’m sorry you experienced this, hoping your new gig is a great one surrounded by good people. 💜
I love that you made the right decision for you. Stay true to yourself. Professionally speaking here, Lil Wayne said it best, “G’s move silent like LASAGNA”. 🤣😂🤣
Laugh your tears away and get ready for your next big thing. Close that door and keep moving forward!
I don’t understand managers that act like this, sounds very childish. They got to their spot by switching jobs too.
Thanks everyone for your kind words and encouragement. I’m going to try to look forward and not let this bother me.
Same thing happened to me when i left a few months ago. Sorry to hear this happened to you- i know how it feels and i could not shake the feeling and replaying it over in my head for awhile but eventually i slapped some sense into myself. It’s mental and emotional abuse. Do what’s best for you!
It’ll get better. My old manager was upset with me because she bypassed me for a promotion to manager and had me train the person she hired instead. When I tendered my resignation, she told me I’d regret it. Two years later, not only am I the happiest I’ve ever been career wise, I also have a promotion that I wouldn’t have gotten if I stayed there!
I know it seems hard Now, but you don’t owe loyalty to anyone but yourself when it comes to your career. Best of luck to you! ❤️
Sounds like jealously . You shouldn’t care what they think they don’t pay your bills. If they reacted this way you are better to cut ties with them anyhow!
Say I swore an oath to Money god and can only be loyal to money. I would have no loyalty if I dont take this job - unless you want to offer more.
Girl f&ck them! Do what you need. Companies expect so much and give so little! Congratulations on your new position.
Your mentor may be upset that you're leaving because they never had to courage to move on themselves. Don't allow what they've said or done affect how you perform in your last few days of your current nor your first impression in your new role. You were brave to step out toward a new opportunity. You deserve the shift and progression. Celebrate!
Reminds of when I was “laid off” due to work permit ineligibility and then hounded to return tuition reimbursement. By a company where I gave blood, sweat, and tears for 5 solid years! They have no heart. It’s all about the bottom line.
Sounds like they proved you made the right decision, but I’m so sorry this happened to you. ❤️
Mentor
“It ruined your whole weekend” isn’t that bad in the long run.
AND, Now you know that your mentor values loyalty!
This happened to me long ago, and I spoke to my old manager about it who had originally hired me at that company. These were her words that I’ve come back to a few times, “don’t worry about him, he can pull up his big boy pants, worry about what matters to you, and how you will feel about things in 10+ years”.
