I submitted my resignation today to go work for a direct competitor and the person I thought was my mentor was very pissed off and said I had no loyalty. I cried my eyes out. Not looking for advice but just wanted to vent here. It ruined my whole weekend…

Your loyalty is to yourself and your family. Not a company. Don’t stress too much.

It’ll get easier! My last manager was outraged when I put my 2 weeks notice in and she was the one that ended up crying. She often talked about her loyalty to the company which is great but I’m
loyal to my family first so if an opportunity will provide a better standard of living for us then I’m going with that🤷🏾‍♀️

They tried to tell me I was REQUIRED to give them 4 weeks notice or I’d be ineligible for rehire and I said OK well BYE ✌🏾🤣

It’s good you left! Family first, for sure! How do you like working at Boeing? I’ve been thinking about a career shift and have applied, but never hear back. What kind of jobs there could a current teacher possibly get hired into? I applied to procurement previously.

Yeah I thought I had lifelong mentors at my first firm and as soon as I left, I was dead to them. Just a reminder to do what’s best for you and your family

Same! Was a hard pill to swallow but an important lesson to be learned.

I hate it when people talk about how people should be loyal to companies when companies don’t show any loyalty to employees. Let’s get it straight: this is not the 1950s where people spend all their lives working somewhere and then sit back enjoy a sweet pension. What we have today are business transactions. Employees provide a service and they are paid for it. That is all there is to it.
Look out for yourself first because nobody else can or will do that for you. You got this! Enjoy the new job and forget about this person who is being ridiculous.

A true mentor would’ve supported you. That person wasn’t a mentor, they were pretending, but really they were self-serving. I’m sorry you experienced this, hoping your new gig is a great one surrounded by good people. 💜

I love that you made the right decision for you. Stay true to yourself. Professionally speaking here, Lil Wayne said it best, “G’s move silent like LASAGNA”. 🤣😂🤣

Laugh your tears away and get ready for your next big thing. Close that door and keep moving forward!

I don’t understand managers that act like this, sounds very childish. They got to their spot by switching jobs too.

Thanks everyone for your kind words and encouragement. I’m going to try to look forward and not let this bother me.

Same thing happened to me when i left a few months ago. Sorry to hear this happened to you- i know how it feels and i could not shake the feeling and replaying it over in my head for awhile but eventually i slapped some sense into myself. It’s mental and emotional abuse. Do what’s best for you!

It’ll get better. My old manager was upset with me because she bypassed me for a promotion to manager and had me train the person she hired instead. When I tendered my resignation, she told me I’d regret it. Two years later, not only am I the happiest I’ve ever been career wise, I also have a promotion that I wouldn’t have gotten if I stayed there!
I know it seems hard Now, but you don’t owe loyalty to anyone but yourself when it comes to your career. Best of luck to you! ❤️

Sounds like jealously . You shouldn’t care what they think they don’t pay your bills. If they reacted this way you are better to cut ties with them anyhow!

Say I swore an oath to Money god and can only be loyal to money. I would have no loyalty if I dont take this job - unless you want to offer more.

Girl f&ck them! Do what you need. Companies expect so much and give so little! Congratulations on your new position.

Your mentor may be upset that you're leaving because they never had to courage to move on themselves. Don't allow what they've said or done affect how you perform in your last few days of your current nor your first impression in your new role. You were brave to step out toward a new opportunity. You deserve the shift and progression. Celebrate!

Reminds of when I was “laid off” due to work permit ineligibility and then hounded to return tuition reimbursement. By a company where I gave blood, sweat, and tears for 5 solid years! They have no heart. It’s all about the bottom line.

Sounds like they proved you made the right decision, but I’m so sorry this happened to you. ❤️

“It ruined your whole weekend” isn’t that bad in the long run.

AND, Now you know that your mentor values loyalty!

This happened to me long ago, and I spoke to my old manager about it who had originally hired me at that company. These were her words that I’ve come back to a few times, “don’t worry about him, he can pull up his big boy pants, worry about what matters to you, and how you will feel about things in 10+ years”.

Does anyone take day dates with their spouse/partner? By the time I get to bed, even on the weekends, I’m spent. I wonder if it would be more enjoyable to spend that time together during the day. We both work incredibly hard and are successful, but honestly I’m more the YOLO type and he probably would find it ridiculous to take this time off work. Has anyone found some enjoyment/benefit to spending time with your spouse like this?

How long to wait before letting a nanny go back to work after covid? Our nanny started feeling sick around 9 days ago. She tested positive 8 days ago. Her symptoms have been very mild (just a cough and a runny nose) and she’s been essentially symptom-free for the past 48 hours. However, I had her take a rapid test just now and she is still testing positive. My husband and I both work full time from home and it would be ideal to have her come to work tomorrow. WWYD?? Thanks fishes!

So MIL has been watching my daughter off and on during the mornings this week because she has a cold and daycare won’t take her with her cough. Super grateful she’s here, but my MIL has been wearing new perfume or some sort of scent that has my allergies acting up and I don’t know if that is also contributing to my daughter’s cold. I’m getting to the point where my eyes are watering and I’m getting stuffed up because of the smell. My husband refuses to talk to her about it.

Hi all. I’m looking for a job to supplement my income. I love my job but quite frankly I’m struggling to keep up with my bills plus daycare for my daughter. I have been interviewing at other places just to get feelers out there but scared to leave b/c of only been at my current role for about 5 months also I really like it there. Anyone have any ideas of anything remote ? Evening shift or even weekend shifts.
Thanks in advance

How do you handle handoff/transition before going on maternity leave? I will be going on maternity leave in 3 months and need to put together a transition plan so that someone can take care of my work while I am out. I want to make sure nothing falls through the crack but at the same time don’t want to train someone to do 100% of my job - that would make my role redundant if someone can just take over right? Plus the company is going through restructuring now too. How would you handle this?

I’m a FTM returning to work in mid-August since being on maternity leave since the end of February. I can’t wait to go back to work (I have mom guilt about daycare but that’s another story). I’m going back to my project which was was very demanding/stressful so I’m having a little anxiety about returning to that specific project. I would love any tips/advice for setting boundaries and being able to balance work with parenting. I’ve already blocked off my calendar for daycare dropoff & pickups.

My 6mo baby started daycare 3 weeks ago. We raised concerns about the frequency of feedings during the day (she was going for 5 hours without getting a bottle). The teachers assured us that would not happen again. Today I noticed she’s went for 5 hours without being fed. I cried so much and I just can’t sit here and eat knowing she’s not eating. I am hesitating calling again because I don’t want to be that parent and potentially create a hostile environment for my baby. I just don’t know wtd 😭😭😭

Moms of fishbowl - what is the best bottle warmer and sterilizer? I’m due in February, planning to do a combination of breast milk and formula (to ensure baby gets all his nutrients one way or another). We bought the baby brezza advanced with WiFi for formula, so more focused on a warmer + sterilizer combo thatll work for breast milk (and specifically thawing breast milk too). Seems there aren’t as many options for combo products with sanitizer, so maybe I’m asking for too much. Suggestions?
