I switched jobs where fertility benefits are no longer covered under my insurance. I froze eggs in the past with and old job when it was covered under my insurance (maybe paid $3k for medications, procedure, visits, etc) - now looking at what a second round or IVF might look like. For anyone who went forward without insurance coverage, how much did you have to spend out of pocket 😬? Trying to see if I should switch jobs again or start saving now.

I faced this and immediately jumped to a different job. I even provided a sliver of this as the reason I was looking to move so quickly (health insurance reflected during recruiting did not match options upon enrollment, good life lesson, etc etc). It helped me make sure that the next company was very transparent about benefits during their process.

It was a crazy 4 months, but given I had been on my fertility journey 2 years already, I don’t regret the move one bit.

People are always baffled when you switch or turn down jobs due to health benefits.

I did a round out of pocket when I was on my husbands health plan. It was about $17k out of pocket (we did not do PGS that round) and meds were covered by insurance but would have cost around $7-9k

like

Thanks for sharing! Wow didn't realize meds could be that expensive

At my clinic the cost pre-insurance came out to around $35k including meds and PGS.

How is your agency managing the war for talent these days in terms of retention? I’m a little at odds with mine where we seem to be giving promotions and higher pay to any and everyone who gets an offer elsewhere. In the long term I don’t see how it benefits us to have talent with further inflated titles running things they aren’t skilled for. It also makes ppl like me who had no intention of looking want to look just because. Curious what others are experiencing/feeling?

I’m about to whistleblow on my non-profit organizations’s bad ethics, potential mismanagement of funds for personal/family gain, disregard for health/safety concerns, and their retaliation against employees for bringing up those concerns. They have a plan to fire my coworker and I already for making safety complaints.

Does anyone know of any good employment lawyers? Potentially any willing to take a pro bono case for public benefit?

Is OC a cold hearted psychopath, is this a reflection of how toxic litigation is, or am i reading too much into this?

Just started at a new company, but also starting to plan for a family. I’m older so it may not be tomorrow, but I also don’t want to get knocked up with no benefits (or if I have to wait a year to get my maternity leave) or ruin my rep at the new co. Thoughts on how to dig around for benefits and how bad would it look if I have an “oops.”
