I talked to a Google recruiter in June and was fortunate enough to be able to skip directly to the on site stage. I told them I’d like a few months to prepare and wanted to do the interview in September. The recruiter said that was fine but I’ve just received an email stating hiring efforts are slowing down and they won’t be able to move forward with my application. Is it not recommended/risky to schedule interviews so far ahead?

It’s always better to interview when you have the opportunity and not delay. The headcount available for new hires may not be there in 4-5 months for a variety of reasons. The positions can get filled by other people, the positions can get re-allocated to other orgs, they can decide not to spend the additional funds via hiring freezes or slow downs, etc.

With the incoming recession yes

like

Very dumb act by you tbh! Never delayed your interview for any reason

likefunny

Companies will mark your application with no hire periods meaning performing poorly on an interview could result in a no hire for way more than 3 months at a specific company.

You do the right thing for your situation OP! No one can predict t the feature, you can try and hedge your bets but nothing is guaranteed. Hindsight is always 20/20 🤷‍♂️

like

A day or week ahead is fine. Preparing for months generally has diminishing returns.

like

Yes. It was risky to ask for a few months to prepare in the first place. I'm very surprised they agreed to that.

like

What preparation did you need to do? Even when there’s so impending recession they could just move forward with other candidates.

I hadn’t touched Leetcode at all. I gave myself a 3 month timeline to catch up on data structures, grind out the Blind 75, and work on interpersonal interview questions. It appears that timeline was far too long 🥲

Dont worry im in the same boat. But it’s better that you didn’t just bomb an intv by scheduling right away. There’s also a bunch of people who passed HC but haven’t gotten their offers bc it took forever to team match and the freeze happened. Just take this time to slowly but steadily LC so youre not stressing yourself out so much but that youll be ready once the freeze is over/new headcount is announced!

like

Yup sorry to say, bad idea.

like

Looks like I'm the outlier here. I was in the same exact boat, didn't feel ready and deleted the interview 3 months initially and then I think another 3-6 months. They were totally fine with it. Seems like you just got unlucky with the economic timing.

Would try to keep in touch with the recruiter and see what's up after the recession.

like

*delayed

Yes. I wouldn't schedule it that far ahead. A week or two would be fine.

like

Same. I asked for a month of prep time and by the time I reached out to the recruiter to schedule the exact date for the interview, I was ghosted🤷‍♂️

I have been a nurse for about 6 years, have my BSN and a compact nursing license. I recently applied for a job at Humana and got a survey sent to me as part of the hiring process. I didn’t hear anything back so I reached out to the recruiter and asked for an update in regards to my application. He informed me that he would be giving my application to the hiring manager when they return from Labor Day. I still haven’t heard anything. Do I reach out again or leave it be. TIA!!

Does anyone else feel that we’re being told “everyone is hiring” but no one is ACTUALLY hiring? More so, putting people through the ringer then saying “we’re on a hiring freeze/position put on hold”. People are not just candidates you put in your back pocket for a rainy day as much as agency’s may think they’re doing a justice by adding you to the “pipeline”. Just a ton of corporate buzz words all leading to “this job is on hold for now”. Recruiting has become a joke of a position

Interviewed for a sr. PM last Thursday. Was scheduled for 30min but we went to an hour and had a really good conversation. The questions I got asked I was told the answers were perfect by the hiring manager. I felt really good coming out of it but then followed up with an email thanking them for the time the next day and I never received a response or next steps. Am I thinking too much into it or is it not a good sign?

I just saw what appeared to be a hot yoga class being taken inside an outdoor dining set up at a local restaurant. They had clear tarps covering the side that would normally be “open air” (ie it was fully enclosed) and additional space heaters running.

I don’t really care what they do but I just had a “c’mon maaaaan” moment. How is this different then doing it inside a yoga studio???
