It’s always better to interview when you have the opportunity and not delay. The headcount available for new hires may not be there in 4-5 months for a variety of reasons. The positions can get filled by other people, the positions can get re-allocated to other orgs, they can decide not to spend the additional funds via hiring freezes or slow downs, etc.
With the incoming recession yes
Very dumb act by you tbh! Never delayed your interview for any reason
Companies will mark your application with no hire periods meaning performing poorly on an interview could result in a no hire for way more than 3 months at a specific company.
You do the right thing for your situation OP! No one can predict t the feature, you can try and hedge your bets but nothing is guaranteed. Hindsight is always 20/20 🤷♂️
A day or week ahead is fine. Preparing for months generally has diminishing returns.
Yes. It was risky to ask for a few months to prepare in the first place. I'm very surprised they agreed to that.
What preparation did you need to do? Even when there’s so impending recession they could just move forward with other candidates.
I hadn’t touched Leetcode at all. I gave myself a 3 month timeline to catch up on data structures, grind out the Blind 75, and work on interpersonal interview questions. It appears that timeline was far too long 🥲
Dont worry im in the same boat. But it’s better that you didn’t just bomb an intv by scheduling right away. There’s also a bunch of people who passed HC but haven’t gotten their offers bc it took forever to team match and the freeze happened. Just take this time to slowly but steadily LC so youre not stressing yourself out so much but that youll be ready once the freeze is over/new headcount is announced!
Yup sorry to say, bad idea.
Looks like I'm the outlier here. I was in the same exact boat, didn't feel ready and deleted the interview 3 months initially and then I think another 3-6 months. They were totally fine with it. Seems like you just got unlucky with the economic timing.
Would try to keep in touch with the recruiter and see what's up after the recession.
*delayed
Yes. I wouldn't schedule it that far ahead. A week or two would be fine.
Same. I asked for a month of prep time and by the time I reached out to the recruiter to schedule the exact date for the interview, I was ghosted🤷♂️
