There's so much overlap between geometry & art! I would try that first. Also, when kids are learning about Greece in history, you could do Grecian urns or something. (The 2nd idea needs more work...)
Frankly, I’m amazed that you’re an art teacher at the elementary level! The last time that I saw that was when I was student teaching 11 years ago. One of the things that came as a surprise to me when I became a teacher was how little time there is for art as its own subject; veteran teachers laughed at me knowingly when I started. Definitely approach other teachers with ideas in hand because if you come to them without an idea they will just look at it as ‘one more thing.’ Art can be so engaging and fun! I’ve seen applications across math, science, writing, and reading.
I think it would totally be a benefit! Maybe send out a google form survey style to ask who is interested and how they would like to collaborate and what kind of projects would they like to collaborate on. That way you’ll know exactly which teachers are interested and how to best support them and the process.
Yes!!! That’s such a benefit. The Kennedy Center has some amazing ideas for integrating art into other subjects. They even have lesson plans for all grade levels. As Juanita mentioned, I would send out some kind of survey/Google doc and start with someone who is interested. I love this!
there is an art teachers bowl here!
What I have done in the last is try to incorporate math as much as I can into my lessons...even though I hate math. I will often ask some of the grade level teachers what they're learning at the moment or what unit theyll be going into, and try to go from there, either by collaborating or doing something on my own on their theme. 2nd graders were learning all about Greece, so they made scratch art of Greek vases, we talked about vocab, then we made pinch pots with the clay. I have done outer space in the past, as well as Black History collab with a tech teacher..we did portraits and they did research on their person in tech. I find it's always a great way to get to know the teachers, and show students art is universal. it doesnt just stay confined to the walls of the art room. They seem to enjoy it. And admin REALLY loves this too
