The only way there is any pay difference between counties is their supplements. I’m not sure if that makes a difference but that is the way to make more money in NC.
North Carolina has eliminated paying anyone for a masters unless it’s a requirement for the position (ex: librarian or guidance counselor) or unless you earned your degree before a certain year. If it’s more recent, you will not be compensated for it.
I looked into this and saw the disclaimer hidden on the bottom of the salary schedule I looked at. I'm still reeling from this discovery! I am trying to see if this dream that I have is even worth it anymore. 😕
I’m not sure where in NC you are planning on living, but know that teachers are paid more at the military bases.
Yes, their supplement is 17.5% and they put it in the monthly check, rather than pay it out once or twice a year, which is nice. I actually got a job in wake for myself for this upcoming year. There are over 100 elementary schools in the district, so I don’t think it’ll be too hard to find one, especially with experience.
Good luck with your journey!
After someone pointed out that NC will not pay me for having my M. Ed, I am trying to determine if the pay cut would be worth the move.
