You’re right, we do feel things deeply. Getting emotional support from places outside advertising is the only thing that helps me compartmentalize when I have to, in order to get my job done. I can do anything for 8 hours a day (eleven hours a day, or during a whole weekend) as long as I know my significant other/cats/parents/best friends are waiting for me on the other side of that all nighter.
You've got to work on solving the problem from the root. Your mind.
Quickest way, by far, is seeing a therapist.
Contrary to popular belief, therapists are not just for "crazy people". Everyone can use one to learn how to manage their mind and emotions better. Especially creatives.
If you're like most people, you'll ignore my advice and go on living life with your mind/emotions controlling you, though.
You could always try developing an addiction or a vice, but I’d opt for the therapy route.
Don’t know what you’re talking about. I’m dead inside.
I started going to therapy for some really hard stuff. My creativity suddenly experienced a massive increase because it really does help provide an emotional outlet
@CD1 @JCW1 Agreed! I’ve been seeing one for the past two years. Sometimes it feels like I don’t have much to talk about, other times I’m running over my hour. At the least, it’s just nice to know it’s literally their job just to listen to me rant for that time, and not feel bad about it (giving my boyfriend a break! And at the most, it’s probably saved my life in terms of overcoming/persevering through anxiety issues!
Therapy and Lexapro
Ran to meds for many years but finally got in some good therapy. Went 3 times a week for a while, then 2. I was working 60-80hr weeks and would just tell my CDs “look, I gotta go do this, but I’ll handle the rest after”. The investment in myself has been one of the best decision I’ve ever made. And the work is always there. I was paranoid about leaving for that, but it made the work better, and believe me when I say my partners were grateful.
If you need help, get it. You’re worth it. Even if it might not feel like it
That's amazing to read @jd1 ❤
I had therapy a few years ago. One of the best decisions I've made, yet.
My chief professional skill is compartmentalization.
I tried therapy but couldn’t get past the idea that my therapist was just getting though the hour. I understand this is why I need therapy but...
@cd1 1st off, takes a lot of guts just to try, so well done 👏
2nd, you should try again!
