I would think about why you’re hesitant about the role, despite everything you mentioned - is it the nature of the work, something else about the company, additional responsibilities, etc.? If you were expecting to be as excited as you were when you landed your first full time job out of college, then that’s not going to happen. That excitement when you get a new job kind of fades when you get older, when you realize jobs are just jobs at the end of the day.

There are some benefits to being a one man show. You get more exposure to leadership and will really have to know your stuff. Of course, there can be negatives, including additional responsibilities. Company prestige is overrated anyways. Many well known companies underpay, especially for the early- to mid-level positions because there is a steady supply of candidates who are willing to take those positions regardless. If compensation is one of your priorities, you’ll realize that you will get some of the highest paying offers from companies you never even knew existed. Most people would agree that a better title and 45% pay bump is a big deal.

I started at a small company (40th employee) taking a major pay cut 4 years ago, it’s the best thing I’ve ever done for my career! We’re at over 400 employees and it was a huge growth opportunity for me and I have stock options now. If the company looks to have a good future, it might be a great opportunity for yoinked career bath!

Two thoughts: (1) Think about what drew you to this job listing to start with. What motivated you to apply to it? (2) Big fish in a small pond has definite pluses. Think about how much more opportunity you will have to make an impact.

It’s a sign of adulthood maybe? Job isn’t supposed to be exciting, it’s supposed to help you to fulfill your potential, getting paid and leave space for your lifestyle. I’m sorry, I’m European and I simply don’t understand why Americans want their work to be their life. I have a decent job, I love what I do, but I have a life I enjoy more than working for other people

Some former colleagues at Manager level at B4 left for IB jobs where they joined as Associates. Not sure they got a pay-cut, it’s likely though, but definitely a Title/responsibility/leadership cut in my opinion. How do you feel about either pay-cuts or title cuts when transitioning industries? Does it worth the “cost(s)” if it is really the role you want to move to? (Looking at a possible exit opp, but most likely A or SrA. role at IB boutique, not higher)

My husband suggested a gender reversal role play the other night (ie I (a female) dress in the traditionally masculine way and he dress as a woman) - he seemed really nervous suggesting it. In the same night he asked me to paint his nails with clear polish - is this him exploring his gender expression? How seriously do I take this? What can I do to support him if this is the case without making him feel threatened? Also, would appreciate any help in how to think about this myself as I want cont.

FTM - I’m just curious on how some of your maternity leave is set up. The paid portion came from my “sick time.” I wasn’t sick, I was caring for and bonding with my son. That’s been bothering me since I returned. Now I don’t have any sick leave and any last minute time that I need to take is unpaid. Other countries give moms the entire year, 100% paid 🥴
