FDAs were obviously swamped when we checked in, dealing with a few guests in front of us. The only thing odd I noticed while waiting were signs up stating that people needed to be dressed at least “PG-13”, and some folks were setting up for an event in the lobby and bar areas. Soon enough, we were given rooms that the FDAs had on a hand written list. Odd but still kind of whatever. Walking to our rooms, we passed a couple of others in the hallway with paper signs on the wall advertising they were “Play Rooms” with a long set of rules, top of the list was to ask and not simply assume consent.
Still undeterred, we continued to our rooms. Walked into the first one, and the AC was out, the second had visibly dirty surfaces and stained sheets - looked like blood and mascara. We got a new room for the one without AC, and requested new sheets. The front desk took a while and said housekeeping was out and handed me a stack of new linens. Took them back to the room and those were stained too.
My wife was kind of annoyed at that point, so we tried calling down to the desk. No answer. She took pictures and took them downstairs, where she also was given the “no housekeeping” explanation. In front of her, a housekeeper came by to argue that those couldn’t possibly be from her rooms because she put clean sheets out. My wife was then shown a couple of other rooms that we might be able to switch to - all of which smelled like smoke.
Eventually they offered to take care of the sheets while we were out, so we accepted and left for the evening.
We came back around midnight or so, and the hotels event was underway. Best guess is that it was some kind of sex/swingers party, and most folks were dressed the part. Headed back to the rooms, and we ended up walking last a couple having sex in the middle of the open-air hallway that was above the lobby. The “Play Room” doors were open too - play in this case meant rope bondage.
On top of that, and the noise from down the hall, we still didn’t have new sheets. We called the front desk, they asked if we really weren’t here for the convention, and claimed that we must have made a 3rd party reservation as the hotel had been booked for a full year. Called the diamond line - at least they were able to get us our points refunded and booked elsewhere for the time of our original stay (but we had to pay the points the new place charged).
They also lodged a complaint with the property’s GM. Not really sure what to ask for in terms of compensation.
No cookies too! I was kind of surprised they didn’t offer.
They didn’t mention my status either. But seeing how overwhelmed the FDAs looked, it’s not anything I wanted to mention as I find the whole thing kind of silly
During undergrad I worked at a nice 4-star hotel that hosted an annual swingers convention. It was pretty wild! With that being said… they bought out the entire hotel to make sure there were no unsuspecting normal guests around who would be uncomfortable.
Hilton should completely comp your other stay in addition to refunding your original points. If you’re feeling feisty, ask for comp food and parking too.
I guess the thing that really grinds my gears is that nobody throughout this whole thing owned it or apologized.
FDAs just blamed housekeeping about the sheets, and also lied to our face about them even being present Housekeeping claims it’s not their fault to the FDA in front of my wife Night Audit somehow claimed that we 1 - knew about the convention as they were sold out 2 - must have somehow booked 3rd party, despite the points reservation.
We weren’t asked if we were attending the event. Or offered their standard diamond walk compensation when we left the hotel. The whole thing was just a slew of service failures, big and small.
Well that is the last time I vacation in Dayton!

Only vibe I'm getting from this is to never stay at a double tree.
