Take a deep breath.
If it happens you’ll bounce back quickly. We’re always hiring good people even during a “hiring freeze.” Good luck.
Check when your health insurance is set to expire. If it changed to the end of the month you have your answer.
Be polite, as much as possible. The business world is small. Thinking of you in this stressful time! Many talented & successful individuals have been laid off - you’re in good company.
Please update us so we can possibly connect you with someone on here who can help!
Immediately ask what your severance package is going to look like.
Ask if you can keep your medical benefits for a while. Clarify what they will say if a future employer reaches out (best thing would be, “OP was a strong asset to the team but the work in their area of skill was reduced, this is not a performance issue). And overall just be polite and try to shore up a positive reference for the future.
If you’re feeling brave, try and negotiate a severance.
Laid off effective today. Was reassured that it was driven strictly by numbers, that there were no performance concerns and they would give me a positive reference. Project manager is pissed off, no time for any kind of proper transition of the stuff I’ve been working on. He’s sending some emails and going to see if they can maybe move me to another part of the business, but it’s not looking very promising.
If you’re interested in sharing your sector perhaps we can advise if our firms are hiring. So sorry!
I recognize that if the decision’s been made, there’s probably nothing I can say or do to change anything, but are there any particular questions I should be asking? Is anything ever negotiable?
Save the tears for your pillow. Whatever happens you will get through it!
I echo what’s already been said. Or it may not be anything bad! Keep us updated!
Just received the official termination letter which includes language preventing me from approaching previous clients for 12 months... which is exactly what I was thinking of doing. Could a discussion with a labor lawyer help? Any recommendations?
Yeah, they’ve provided me with some sort of job service like that. Haven’t looked at it yet tho
