I think I need to make the decision to leave public accounting.

I'm burning out. I think I just need a break for a few years so that I can focus on rebuilding my personal life...

It's not an easy decision to make, though. I don't even know where to start looking for my next job....

I left public after 5 years to industry and make a lot more than i did in public and have a lot more wlb. I didnt mind tax but hated tax season

like

Totally agree. No one talked to me the last 2 weeks i was there i felt like an outcast and was told everyone was talking about me. Got a "pizza party" for the 5 years i was there and all i was asked was "what is the dress code like at this new company". Some people didn't even say bye. So ungrateful. They also would write a card and get a gift as an office selectively for only certain people that were leaving. Only my mentor did since no one else seemed to treat me like I mattered. Felt like a slap in the face after all the years of working my ass off and long hours. Was also extremely underpaid and making the same thing as new hires who knew nothing. Happy to be out of there and feel valued at my new company.

I'm so glad I posted here, guys. I really appreciate the comments.

Some of you reminded me that it's not just the job, and I can't run away from my body telling me I need a break 🫶

I don't feel like I need to leave my job anymore. I just need to work on being firm with my boundaries, communicate with my coach, and protect my personal interests at all cost! 🥹

For reference, I have my CPA, only 1 year of experience with ASC 740 provisions, and 3 years in public tax.

I love tax, and I don't think I will leave public accounting forever. I'm just not enjoying it like I used to, and my personal relationships are suffering.

I've been where you are. I was very lucky, my husband has a good job and with some cutbacks in our lifestyle I was able to transition to freelance bookkeeping. I was only making about half what I made at my company and even that took months to establish. But my mental health was so much better, I was able to spend more time with my children and offset childcare costs, I had more time to do chores and I didn't constantly feel so overwhelmed. My marriage got a lot better too. My children are a lot more independent now so I'm thinking about going back to do something full-time, but honestly I'm pretty happy where I am, even if it means living a little more modestly.

like

My future FIL is an entrepreneur, and he could use a full-time CPA. Right now, though, I think he'd only be able to match my salary 75%, and I've never had the desire to be a part of a start up 😭

idk... freelance sounds nice for a year or two to decompress and regroup.

like

I feel that way too. The WLB isn’t the best and everyone around me notices how it drains my energy. I feel that at some point I have to make a move and move to a different field.

like

If it's taking a toll on your mental health, then go. Your mental health is not worth risking for any job. Do you have any plans? Or maybe you can take a vacation and free yourself form worries for a while.

likehelpful

Ughhhh, a vacation is probably really needed.. something quiet. Maybe a weekend in the mountains ⛰️

When I felt this way I went to industry and I hated it. I realized I needed to put up more boundaries with work and say no more. Have you had a very candid conversation with your career coach / advisor about what’s going on? If you like your work, I’d give them an opportunity to brainstorm with you ways to fix what’s wrong.

helpful

I made the mistake of leaving my previous team before talking to my coach, and I promised myself I wouldn't do that again.

I just needed to be reminded that I need to speak up 🙏

Taking a break sounds like a solid plan if you're feeling overwhelmed. Sometimes stepping back and reevaluating your priorities is exactly what you need to do. As for where to start looking for your next job, maybe think about what you enjoy doing outside of work. Is there a hobby or passion project you've been putting off because of your workload? Sometimes those interests can point you in the direction of a new career path.

Any Deloitte people can advise why this position completely vanished both on Deloitte Career and LinkedIn? The position is“Accounting & Reporting Advisory - Intelligent Automation Senior”. Did Deloitte cut this service line or they just have no more needs? I think it is similar to FAAS Digital.

Hi, I need your honest opinion on this. Currently I have done AWS cloud practitioner certificate and want to progress but I don't think to like Solution Architect that much, I feel it will be boring for me. Am looking for something I can study and stick with it long run. Thanks 😊.

Hi guys
Had a query regarding Salesforce strategy roles.

Is it worth trying for strategy roles after 2 years in Tech Strategy projects at EY ? Or is there something more specific that I should be doing ?

Observed on LinkedIn that generally an MBA from Tier 1 University is the norm.

I am interested to apply to Salesforce in the future, if not now.

Currently going to school for my cannabis certification but I rarely see any jobs that offer cannabis research. I currently work in a lab/greenhouse environment and would love to continue that line of work with hemp/cannabis. Yet again no luck whatsoever, just finding jobs as budtenders or running a dispensary. Does anyone know where I can find research-based cannabis jobs? I have a degree in horticulture with lab experience.

Good morning!

Still trying to figure out this whole Fishbowl thing, so here goes my first post.

I would love to get into provider credentialing, but all employers I've looked at want at least 3 years of experience. So, I'm looking at Provider Network Coordinator roles, because I'm finding some of those roles don't need AS MUCH experience. I'm a RHIT, and have been working in healthcare for nearly 10 years.

Any input on employers is appreciated!

Just found out that end of the year I will be promoted from analyst directly to VP and since it’s such a large jump I’ll be the lowest paid VP in asset management at only $135k TC. Should I stay it out and wait for TC to align or take the promotion and jump ship bc I will likely get paid more elsewhere given how recruiters/other companies eat up hiring recently promoted ppl from other firms?

Question about changing careers to be a therapist:
I’m in my mid-30s and currently in HR, which I don’t enjoy. I live in a HCOL (Los Angeles) and make about $100k per year currently. I don’t have any kids so I live comfortably on that. I’ve been considering going back to school to become a therapist, and I was recently laid off so I’m thinking about doing it now (instead of finding another HR job and waiting). (Continued…)

Second question: what sort of work experiences are companies like flatiron and komodo health looking for to work in RWE/heor? I'm not sure how to leverage Epidemiology to get into that space :(

I have over 12 years in B2B sales/sales management experience along with a graduate degree. I am wanting to shift gears and I am at a point where I can invest time in myself to learn through practical experience. The new industry I am wanting to pursue is real estate investment. I have read all the books but want some hands on experience on the property management side. How could I best leverage my skills for a role in this, and what should my expectations be for negotiation in compensation?
