I think I would like to get into an underwriting career rather than sales. What steps should I take to get into an underwriting position? I am licensed in P&C, Life and Health.

I recently got an underwriter position. Worked as commercial line AE for 4 years. Licensed in P&C, Life and Health as well. On top of that I also got CPCU and ARM designations. My advise is maybe apply for UA and entry level underwriter position. Designations helps but not a must.

smart

I agree - look for an entry level position. Most companies want you to have a degree or at least 4 years of relevant experience. Designations add additional credibility and a baseline of knowledge. Most carriers offer pretty good training programs and there is a lot to learn - appetite, systems, processes, marketing, etc.

helpful

Do you have a degree? What about a CPCU?

No to both questions.

Unfortunately most companies do required at least a degree. I don’t have CPCU but I’m licensed in Life & Health because must consulting firms require it. I’m with a large carrier and my position prefer CPCU but not required.

If you’re still with State Farm, talk to you manager about your aspirations. Ask for a mentor or job shadow in underwriting department. Then you can ask what are the requirements to get into underwriting.

Hello Fishes ,

My wife has received an offer for the position of ESG reporting specialist .

Package : 12 LPA
YOE : 4 Years

She is currently working with EY and is due for a raise with current package of 7 LPA. However , her concern is that in EY she gets to work with different clients and create reports for them which offers a lot of challenges and she enjoys those which might be missing in UBS

Any suggestions on whether she should join ?

I joined a startup a little less than a year ago as Marketing Director. Around three months into the role, I started to experience issues with my payroll. I would receive direct deposits a few days after my expected pay date, but I just assumed the CEO had forgotten to process my deposit in time. As more time passed, the time between my expected payday and actual payday increased and the CEO stopped processing my deposits through the payroll system.

Hi Everyone. I completed my 1 year in EY in October 2022. And in my profile, they have updated it to Senior Analyst now. But that was a progression that happens every year and I have not received the incremented salary.

Now that they are giving increments to everyone, will I receive both progression and increment or my progression will be counted as increment.

Highly confused.

I received a verbal offer at a place I dont really see myself at. Also in late stages with 4 firms I like better. Should I alert them to hopefully push things a bit faster? If so should I start with the job I want most but is most competitive? Or should I just wait since I’m in late stages anyway?

How do you know when you are ready to go from junior to mid-level? Been interviewing and that question is always a struggle. Don’t want to sound too cocky nor underestimate myself...

Hi,

I'm looking for some advice.

I have four years of experience in large firms, I'm fully certified in Ireland, I have a first class honours degree business degree, where I majored in Risk Management & Insurance.

Is it difficult to find a job as an expat, are there many barriers to entry & what states would be the best bet?
