I think I'm burned out and tired of tax compliance but it's all my career has been in. I want to do something different just don't know what yet.

Try something new after 5/17 and see if you can discover something you can see yourself doing in the future. I was burned out of audit after 6 years and switched to tax and am much happier and I have been getting involved with real estate investing as a buyer of rental properties and lending out private money. I would have never discovered things I enjoyed if I listened to my higher ups and stayed in audit.

Same. Then every job I look into doesn’t seem much better. Wondering if I am just going to be miserable forever. Feels hopeless.

I feel the same way. Interviewed at another firm and it seemed like the same bs different firm. Also interviewed for two typical industry roles and it seemed the same. Really need to change things up to ignite the flame in me again.

If you like some of the things with PA and don’t mind the hours, you could try another area of tax, like a specialty area. Expanding tax knowledge is at least a resume builder I guess

Switch out of compliance driven tax fields-go into m&a or try state (there’ll still be compliance but there’s a lot of consulting).

If you like consulting and planning better than return work consider M&A or ITS or STS that does projects like R&D credit studies. Talk to these groups internally. The knowledge you have acquired thru compliance work will help you as a consultant. You have to be able to relate to clients gain their trust communicate the value proposition clearly and sell them projects to be successful.

It’ll be remote, and I was hoping it could be accompanied by an encouraging group message as well. Let me know if you are interested and we can find a way to connect!

What’s your % benchmark for annual household spend (total expenses/gross annual income). I feel we don’t spend that much money (25%), but I don’t really see our “wealth” dramatically changing yoy, so I am wondering maybe I am just off or something I’m missing.
