McKinsey & Company Bain & Company Hiiii! I’ve been at my job for a year and a couple of months now & I’ve gotten rather bored because the work is repetitive, not challenging, and hasn’t really allowed me to learn or grow as much as I would’ve liked to. Given how I’m still paying a ton of money for my postgrad in Business Comms (that I haven’t really gotten the chance to use), I’ve been thinking of entering the world of consulting. Any word of advice? PwC McKinsey & Company Bain & Company Boston Consulting Group KPMG

I went from internal client services/in-house agency PM to agency PM. I am going to go back. Being an agency PM is awful. If there was a contest for worst job ever, it would be in the top 10.
I moved from a Sr PM agency side to Proj Director client side. On one hand I miss the filter that a client service team provides (good or bad), but I don't miss the personality clash. As an in-house resource you will need to learn how to do some of the requirement gathering and client wrangling that the AM did, which is not fun.
It is possible to have a great partnership, no matter where you are, but you have to reach out and set expectations.
Become an account person and show them the way. I’m not kidding, I think if account hired people focused on execution over schmoozability clients would be 100% happier.
My current account team used to be a royal nightmare to work with. After two years of building up trust and our working relationships it’s gotten a lot better because they can see how much smoother our team runs when we ALL trust each other and get rid of the us vs. them mentality.
I feel this deeply and want to agree with you, but I need the AM filter. I've had hybrid roles and hated the client service side.

Thanks for posting - meaty topic.
Heads of AM & PM (and/ or or their designees), should embark on a RACI initiative. Lay down one that's ~80% right to a small group. Then workshop the remaining ~20%. Like so much in our world, it's not intended to be dogma. It's functional guidance, they, the AM/PM population, overall team, HR, execs, and importantly clients will benefit. Should be part of a follow-on job description tuning and onboarding.
A RACI workshop is a great idea. A big part of my frustration stems from AMs who “don’t stay in their lane”.
I would say that I mostly agree with this; however, I absolutely love the AM I am partnered with now. She truly is immersed in the client and goes well beyond the expectations to provide the most outstanding experience for them. As the project manager, I’m never without the information or resources I need to execute efficiently. It’s really all about how much the AM truly values their position and their work.
