I think my boss is an utter and complete noob, he has no technical background and only works for an hour , 30 min in morning when he tells everyone what to do and 30 min at night when he takes notes and sends to the team lead.
I need to be in his good books but often lose my temper and cut him off, how can I be more polite to him so that he doesn’t spoil my review ?

How do you know he only works an hour a day? Also, it’s none of your business what he does that you have no insight into. Chill out

You could’ve just told me to my face…

You don’t know even half of what you think you know.

like

I’ll guess he just doesn’t involve you in the rest of his day which is likely full, and nothing on your project has blown up yet so he doesn’t have to worry about it.

Sounds like your boss, if what you say is true, has figured things out in a way that is way smarter than the rest of us…!

like

“Often lose my temper and cut him off”…wow.

If you’re truly doing this often, you can bet they’re having side conversations about your performance. And when I say they, I mean the leaders in your group and anyone with input into your future.

In the near future, if you get a coaching lesson, be thankful it’s not an official reprimand impacting your career and take the advice.

What level are you and what level is he?

Have you heard the iceberg analogy? He might be working when you don’t think he is. He might have stuff going on at home that he has to WFH or flexible hours.

Slow your roll. No one except maybe a nepotism hire is going to be allowed to actually only work an hour and a half.

Interrupting and cutting anyone off just makes you look like a jerk.

Pros:

- fairly decent place to work (from someone who worked with the Vancouver and San Jose offices). never met a blue badger (permanent employee) who had awful things to say.

- Ashley Goodall (their SVP, Methods & Intelligence) co-authored a brilliant book on leadership and people management called “Nine Lies About Work” that makes me believe they can be an awesome place to work

Cons:

- red badgers had low morale since they’re contract workers and can be terminated at any time

Has anyone else had a mentor (assigned to them by the Company) who seemed to have it out for you? I mean downright sabotage to make you look bad left and right. I didn’t realize it at first. She was fake friendly, but she was discrete too. Some of the executives thought she was amazing, but I had to clean up her work all the time. She wasn’t above me either on the chain of command. Later I found out she had tried for the exec assistant role and they didn’t choose her, they wanted me instead.

I want to get promoted and earn a higher wage, but I feel really intimidated and normally end up downplaying myself and asking for less in conversations. Any advice around how I can talk to my boss?

Most histories this period often adopt a Euro-centric lens but this book flips it and tells the stories of these turbulent times from the vantage point of the pioneering Asian leaders like Tagore, Al Afghani, Kang Youwei etc. Lovers of Asian history would surely appreciate this book

I am so conflicted and not sure what to do. A company I wanted to work for was not ready for hire when I first reached out in Sept. Since then I have accepted a job at a outpatient oncology clinic, starting in Jan at a renowned hosp. Having said that the other company does more of what I was hoping to do when I left my previous job. The company is a vessel for new ideas in healthcare helping their community specifically with seed funding, & launching their own programs. I have no idea what to do

Would you tell your boss you’re looking for a new job?

My boss in the past has mentioned he would like employees to let him know. I am currently starting to look and interview. If I told him, it would be under the reason of the difference in timezone (which is partially true, most of my team is in Europe and I’m on PT). I tend to think letting a boss know is a bad idea, but interested in hearing from others.
