I think we need to realize and recognize that we need to take back state houses and state offices, and be very sanguine about who are friends are (Democrats) and who our friends are not (Republicans…).

Packing the court is dumb. Also, I’m all for marriage equality, but Obergefell was a terrible decision.

I was on a webcast yesterday discussing the state of the economy. Recession is coming and will make all social issues secondary. The experts on the webcast stated that people won't care about rights and a progressive agenda if they're losing their jobs and worried about whether they can afford to pay for basic necessities. So I expect that Republicans will start running the government soon.

Packing the court goes two ways. Once it starts, we’ll basically have a House of Lords with peers appointed once one party controls the congress and the presidency. It will happen, and not the way you might like. Be careful what you wish for.
I’ll agree with you there, PGC1. I’m not for packing the court. It’s a slippery slope, and there’s not the political capital or will to do so. Term limits and other creative solutions may be viable alternatives.
I think we need to unpack why there’s suddenly an urgency to do all these things when over 300 anti-trans bills have been pushing across the US in the past year alone

C1–You made a very good
Point earlier—instead of “packing” the court—which could come back to bite its proponents big time, why not enshrine a right to an abortion, gay rights, etc., in legislation. It would be just as easy and probably more effective than “packing the court.”

OMFG RSM1, Republicans running the govt because of the economy?
Because we need ANOTHER financial crisis or ANOTHER botched response to a pandemic?
Omg yea. Count me in!!! <- sarcasm
Not in Biden’s control. We don’t have 50 Dems in the Senate who feel a sense of urgency AND that this is the right way to do it, and he has no leverage over some of them.
