I thought software engineers were supposed to be making the big bucks…but this just looks like consulting pay scales to me?

Depend on company- just like consulting where MBB > t2 > b4 > WITCH, etc, we also have FAANG -> t2 > other big tech > random swe at some companies like Home Depot, Walmart, etc.

Senior swe/mle lands around $200-400k tc. Staff swe around $400-600k. Principal+ will get you close to $900k. But that’s for a few of the high paying tech, not just swe.

Eg. Distinguished engineer (highest level) at cap one gets you $300k while a senior swe at meta will get you more.

Walmart isn’t random tho, they are quickly rising up the ranks with ecommerce trying to compete for market share % along with Amazon. They also pay well

Don’t assume these numbers with what people make at FAANG or some of the early start-ups.

Also, when we are talking FAANG, the SDE are the ones making the highest bucks. PM roles etc are also pay well but nowhere close to SDE.

Also, consider the RSU + joining bonus. RSU blow the salary up. Base wise, it’ll never look that high.

SE’s don’t make that much unless they work at FAANG

Agree with SM1, that statement is wrong

Hourly wage is much higher than in consulting.

Unless you’re at Amazon

Totally depends who you are working for. Anyway, an analyst at Big 4 or some other places will not start out at $95k TC like an average SWE.

But Pwc is closer to Microsoft or HP. Some regional firm like eide Bailey would be closer to Comcast.

Yeah the average is well average. The big numbers come from big tech. The 20% highest paying companies

Right now software engineers can say fuxk you if company’s ask them to move onsite if you’re good enough. I am relatively new to salary jobs, but I attended a big 10 school and studied CS. Had 10 recruiters call me today for $50+/hr on all of them, and now around 50% are remote.

Idk if I’d have the same leverage to say that to company’s if I studied business, but maybe I would

it's around what I'd expect: there's FAANG and then there's countless SMEs across Middle America earning middling wages

Ya I was gonna say…

It's true, most SWEs don't work in big tech (tier 1, 2).

It varies enormously. My roommates TC is going up by about $250k in a few weeks by moving to Meta

This pay scale looks off … I’m a PM with 2 years of consulting experience and at 270+ TC (not FAANG). The eng team I work with makes about the same with similar YOE

Just giving perspective. Not sure who hurt you @m1

FYI on a list of generally high paying - senior swe = ~ 7 yoe average

This is comparing random swe to top tier consulting. There is tons of venture-backed and post ipo companies that pay a lot more than this…

Ya “venture backed” those are the company’s I wanna work for lmao

Some random ass garage door company startup reached out to me today and the only question I had was if they were backed by VCs and they were so I said okay hell yes I’m interested

They get equity. RSUs ,refreshers etc add up to the base making total compensation more than double that you have in the table here

Software engineers make their big bucks in equity at startups imo. Then hope to get acquired by a company that u fancy consultants advise

I know atleast a couple people in the last category. Title is not so fancy though, just, software engineer. Depends on the org

We CTE teachers are disproportionately affected by remote learning! With kids spending 50% to zero time in the lab actually USING the tech (chefs in kitchens, carpenters in woodshops, mechanics in garages, cameramen in studios, etc) how are we supposed to teach them anything? All theory and no "hands-on" does not prepare one for a career.

I stuck a salary negotiations for 10.5 LPA with TCS.
I have .NET Skill and 3.3 YOE with 90 Days notice period in Accenture.
Is it worth to take offer for 10.5 LPA with TCS ?
Please give suggestions!

What is the actual process to get access to United Club lounge? I hear a different story every week. Feels like the receptionists are the final decision makers and nothing else matters.

Recently a high powered individual scolded me for killing a tone deaf pride idea, because I said, “As an lgbtq person, I feel ____.” Allegedly that phrasing wouldn’t allow others to feel like they could state their opinions on the idea. I was extremely upset but didn’t want to burn a bridge so I listened to their feedback and tried to let it go. But I haven’t really let it go - it was demoralizing and insulting...and quite frankly I’m angry I let them get away with it. What would you do?

How's Sunday treating everyone?

I’m a paralegal at a V10 firm coming up on my 2 year commitment. I don’t want to go to law school, but have little work experience outside of the legal field.

I feel stuck. What options do I have? Any advice to offer? Thanks in advance!
