I tripped doing a weighted curtsey lunge and almost blew out my lower back; sharp click and nerve pain spasm. I took a 4 day break to resettle. I still feel some tension in my back but no acute pain. When is ok to pick back up and what exercises? Should I focus on isolated muscle groups instead of total body?

I usually do HIIT/running/yoga... but I feel like everything I “know how to do” is connected to my low back and risky

you should get evaluated by a Physical Therapist

smart

Pls stop performing those movements and consult a high level S&C coach. More generally, don’t mix stability work with strength work with endurance work with speed work.

If you want a stronger lower body, do squats.

In the meantime, consult a PT for an evaluation to ensure you don’t have more significant damage.

helpful

I think you could get x Ray to be safe if you like, and perhaps see physical therapist.

If you wanna avoid the steps above, I think light stretch and rest would be the key to recovery

I would wait until you feel better to let whatever you did heal. Then slowly go back to working out.

Wondering if anyone struggles with a similar problem I do - I was a volleyball player/serious athlete from 10 until I finished playing my senior year of college. I then worked as a full time volleyball coach/assistant director of operations for a super competitive club in south Florida. I changed career paths for stability and money increase, but now I find when I’m super stressed at work I avoid the gym. I normally go 4-6 days per week and consider it an outlet, but now seems to add stress.
