I understand there's no need to be overly sentimental when leaving for a new job as your project will replace you more quickly than you think, but has anyone left at a critical point in time for a project and found it burned bridges or received very negative feedback when resigning?

If you leave gracefully and you get negative feedback, good riddance. You don’t want those people in your professional or personal circles anyway.

I don't understand the whole concept of burning the bridge. Seems like unnecessary cuffs we put on our ambition. The only way is to move forward, there will always be emergencies

like

Leave on a good note - 1. Give adequate notice 2. Try help identify your replacement 3. Give strong transition. Don’t see why anyone would take objection to you leaving when you check all 3 items. If they still push for you to stay, negotiate your terms.

I think that many people find themselves in the situation where their current employers professional network may be less than ideal, but this s hitty bridge is the only one they have.

Since George Floyd's murder and the sudden Corporate America "wokeness," I (black guy) have been routinely contacted by unacquainted Partners who explicitly state something to the effect "Client X wants diversity, so we'd like you on this deal..." It really comes across as tone deaf and completely patronizing. I appreciate the efforts to diversity (albeit forced), but Partners really need to learn how to not be so supercilious in the approach. You don't have to overtly state that I'm the quota.

Hi guys, I am due to start working at EY soon within audit. I will be commuting to the office by train when in the Birmingham office. This will be from Leicester. Usually if a commute is about 1.5 hours+, Mazars authorises hotels. Is there a similar policy at EY? When not in the office I would prefer to drive to clients, not sure if me being in Leicester affects whether they will tell me to suck up an extended commute? Would a mileage claim be from the office to the client? Thanks!
