I understand this is an afterthought, but have firms started thinking what they’re going to do about summer associates if this coronavirus quarantine stretches into June? Hoping they won’t drop us..?

I would be more worried about the bar exam if I were in your shoes

like

I won’t be taking the bar until next summer, when (hopefully) all of this is just a distant memory

like

if i had to guess, they won't drop you, they will have you working remotely for at least some of the summer, the experiences and in person socializing component will be heavily curtailed, and they'll still give you offers. but really, this all depends on the virus spread and to some extent on firm finances in an inevitable recession and possible depression.

like

This, except for the offer part.

like

Big firms will still give offers

like

Some big firms have affirmed they will pay summers the full amount they expected and give 100% of the class a full time offer. Likely the whole summer program will be remote though, and that truly is a lost experience.

Just like 2009!

Moving to NYC from Canada and was hoping to sign a lease prior to arrival (I have friends that can view for me). How feasible is this? I’m assuming this happens a lot, but I’m sure landlords or building management would be skeptical if they haven’t had the chance to meet me. I just want to do everything as quick and efficiently as possible. I’ll also be shipping everything so I need to inform the moving company of a new address.

What are the things you wish you knew when starting big law in NY? I’m lateraling to big law after working at a boutique firm in DC (5 attorneys). I’m a 2nd year associate but I’m starting out as a 1st year at the new firm because I had little litigation experience (and had no prob with that because the offer was solid and liked the idea of a smoother transition into big law).
