I used to be so ambitious - stay till manager, go for MBA, all that. But between the pandemic and working in public accounting, now all I want is a dog, a house, and a long term partner.

Congrats — you’ve woken up. I remember when I was a kid, “I want to make a zillion dollars and have a Ferrari!”. For what? What does it all do? What does it all mean? Now? I want enough land to quietly provide for my family. Let the ego maniacs sniff and snort their way through their IB bonuses & pop bottles at some meaningless establishment in Manhattan. I’ll quietly enjoy life in the embrace of Mother Nature.

You make a fair point. The pandemic really made me ask myself what exactly I’m driving toward. I honestly have no idea.

Ambition doesn’t have to be purely career focused. You can be ambitious about creating a home and family.

I also am like this. Was an athlete and thrived on beating other people. Needed to compare my grades to others to win. Needed the awards to feel validated. That sort of competition and insecurity (spoiler alert, that’s what it is) made me feel pretty empty. What helped for me was therapy to reshape my views of success. A lot of it was just understanding short term happiness vs long term happiness, and also trying to think ahead towards what I want my life to be like down the road. Beating others at things, making the most money, these are short term wins. Finding happiness through achieving your long term goals and finding peace and harmony in life is the real trophy. Not nearly as sexy, but ten times more satisfying. Anyway, I’m monologuing. If you want to chat message me

Sameee. I’ve always been a type A person and pretty competitive about my career (4.0 student, high reviews at work, etc). I got married recently, bought a house, have a puppy, and I can tell you my new family brings me so much more happiness than my job ever did. Don’t get me wrong, I’m still pretty career focused and I recently got promoted so things are good at work, but when I get overwhelmed with work I remind myself that at the end of the day it is just a job.

What specific tech skills are MBB looking for that they would be willing to offer flexibility on starting level. Again this is for the consulting not expert tracks at MBB. Many thanks in advance!

Unpopular opinion: I think an MBA is a waste of money for practising lawyers. Let me run before I get fishbowl stoned to death 😂😂. FYI - for those who might want to attack me for lacking an MBA. It's true, I don't have one. But actually have 2 postgraduate degrees in Law.

Lots of post about kids so I’ll offer one that’s been on my mind. Why more than one kid? I grew up with a sibling. She is my best best friend but as I’ve gotten older realized we were more of the exception. Lucky that we are same gender (which I do think impacts closeness), that we are close in age, and just clicked like bffs. Have since met so many sibs with non existent and toxic relationships. More kids = more expense. After passing on genes and getting love of a child, why have more than one

What’s popping in ATL ?

Mask off: Journalist to freelance copywriter. Started working full-time under contract for an agency that won't hire me. I've freelanced for agencies and in-house marketing teams, but I'm always the outsider looking in. I want to transition to a full-time permanent gig. Interviews seem to go well, 2 agencies went to 3 interviews and nothing. I know I'm totally missing something that agency insiders would understand. Would love advice on navigating uncharted territory. Thank you!
