I usually wear eyeliner to work but is that too much for a Zoom interview/ interviews in general?

Eyeliner is what keeps me looking alive and awake

like

I’ve always worn eyeliner for every interview. I’ve never even considered whether it is “unprofessional.” I think so long as you keep your eyeliner natural and polished (no thick, long wings, smudges, crooked lines), it’s completely fine.

like

What level of eyeliner are we talking here? As long as no dramatic wings or unusually thick lines, sounds absolutely fine for interviews.

Lol I had to google that… nice look for a rocker chic night out 😂

As long as you don't look goth

like

As long as it’s not some crazy color or a raccoon effect… if you would wear it to work you can wear it to an interview.

like

I also sometimes wear more makeup on zoom than in person bc of how the lighting and camera is so it makes me look better lol

smart

Not too much at all! I regularly wear makeup (including liner) in professional environments.

Hey everyone, What would you say is the difference between an account director and a senior account manager. So, I'm happy at my current job and have been there about 18 months. Our pay is probably 15% below market (AmLaw 100) but so are our billable requirements. An interview for another firm kind of fell into my lap, and I'm debating whether to take it just for the sake of seeing what market really is. Is there something shady about interviewing somewhere you're not totally committed to accepting an offer from?

Quitting before finalizing offers?

I’m at post onsite and negotiation stage at a couple places but it may take another month or 2 due to either hiring freezes or general slow processes.

I want to quit now to go on vacations that I held off during prep. Does it make much difference when I negotiate offers? Like if my upcoming unvested RSU would be (partially) matched, and they find out I quit somehow, is it no longer matched? Other potential snags?

Already burned most of my PTO interviewing.

Hi there! I am a fourth-year L&E attorney at a large firm. After a considerable amount of research, I've determined that appellate practice is a much better fit for my skill set and interests (complex research and writing, performance / oral argument). I'm currently based in Chicago, but am contemplating a move to TX. Are there any Chicago or TX appellate attorneys who might be willing to chat in more detail? Thanks!

Any advice for healthier eating, or eating in general, when dealing with a particularly stressful time? I struggle with inflammatory stomach issues as it is, and the stress has been piling up and making it much worse lately - I’m either nauseous or have no appetite (or both). Decided to take the time to make one of my favourite (healthy and vegetarian) meals tonight and it was just not appealing at all 🥲 I don’t think I’ve had a proper meal in a week and I feel terrible.

Landed a job in NYC. As much as I want to live there and will be moving in with my partner I think the most financially savvy option is to live in Jersey city to save on the city tax. Both our salaries would definitely go up next year so moving to the city would be a huge possibility in 2022. Has anyone else started our in Jersey city first ? Is it worth it or should I just try to make it work in NYC ?

I don't know who needs to hear this, but I have a few former classmates and colleagues sweating over lateral interviews. Take a deep breath and relax.

First, doing these interviews does not define you as a person.

Second, take it one day at a time; if they are moving forward, they see something in you.

Third, remember that the people interviewing you are human beings. Connect with them, be personable.

Annual review advice?
I feel very secure in my long-term employment and am doing very well. I work at a midsized boutique with a generally solid culture. I’ve been described as “rising star/golden child” etc., glowing reviews. The thing is that I’ve had a tough year with absent mentors, low interaction/training (there are extenuating circumstances with my SA.) Do I mention what changes I need to see to stay here? Question for moms. I’m getting married next year and have several close family members that will have babies ages 8-11 months old by then. What are some ways I can support the moms and make it an enjoyable experience for them? We have a separate room at the venue that I was thinking could be offered to the parents to use, or potentially hiring a babysitter for them (either at the venue or back at the hotel). I would love for the families to be able to come, as it is out of town.

I quit. I was respectful. Thankfully, every person I have told has been so nice, and I wasn't immediately bounced out by my leadership (which has happened), but I have been surprised by my own bittersweet tears. If they actually cared, why didn't they say so sooner? I gave so much, and I was consumed by this organization. I invested in them, but my investment and dedication were not reciprocated, which is why I ever even entertained leaving. I don't know why it hurts, but it really, really does.

Plus size suits! Help!
