No. Go for your dream job. Good luck!!

Agreed!! Dream job trumps the other position every time. You have to look out for you. Praying for guidance for you.

You are not obligated until you sign the contract so hold off on that. Best wishes for your dream job!

If you didn't sign a contract you are free to accept a job at your dream district.

In addition, if you get the job at your dream district (and sign your contract) please inform the first district of your decision.

**UPDATE** I was offered and accepted the position in my dream district! Thank you all for your feedback and support, it was very helpful. ❤️

So many positive vibes here. While I agree with them all, let me play devil's advocate here. What if the "DREAM DISTRICT" really isn't all it is cracked up to be? I took a job in a 2-room school district (yes, you read that right). Not my dream district. This experience taught me so much about myself as a person and teacher. When I finally moved on, I was the one who was the "Dream Candidate" for my current district. Turned out that smaller district provided me with skills and opportunities I might not have. Go with your gut, but look carefully before you leap. Good luck.

I appreciate your insight! I am confident that working in the small district would have some perks and I won't be disappointed if that is where I end up teaching. However, my preferred district is where I have been working as a paraeducator for the past 5 years and I also taught as a long-term sub this past year. Not only am I familiar with the district it is also where I live, so my commute would be minimal and there is also a significant pay increase with my preferred district. My husband already commutes 45 minutes away for work and we are raising our four boys, so for me a longer commute has additional challenges. Thanks again for your thoughts, my own elementary experience was in a one room, one teacher k-8, so small schools hold a special place in my heart.

No. You’re are not held to the position you verbally accepted. Hopefully, you will do well on your dream interview. Best wishes.

Sending u good vibes. Do what is best for your quality of life. Hoping it is everything you expect and more!

How long ago was this? I would say the sooner you communicate with them the more considerate it would be. Just contact them and explain that for you and your family especially with a long commute.

If I am offered a job at my preferred district I will notify the smaller district right away. They were very nice and I wouldn't want to delay them filling the position.

Good luck! Not obligate.

like

They're still not technically obligated to give you the job at this point...

like

No you aren’t under contract and if you get the other job you can respectfully that the other district know that you are working closer to home.

In our state, you aren’t hired until the school board approves the hiring anyway. You can still back out.

I’m so pleased for you!! Congratulations and may the job be everything you want it to be.

New to investing, but want to make sure I'm doing this correctly. I've maxed out my 401K and am looking to open an IRA. I know everyone recommends backdooring this into a Roth IRA, but if my plan is to move/retire to a state with no state income tax, wouldn't traditional make more sense? Or am I overthinking this? Also, if I go the backdoor route, how do I make sure I don't get taxed again, when i convert to a Roth? Thanks in advance!

Asking because I've been at a bigger firm that kept everyone on during the last shutdown, but I'm at a much smaller company now that is going to furlough on a project by project basis (if your project is shutdown, you get furloughed). Just curious if this is commonplace among smaller firms/what the norm is for bigger ones as well? What's been your experience?
