Are you me??
I feel this in my soul.
Try to do something that gives you pleasure. I like some sports and playing them give me great joy. I’m sure you will have some things that give you a lot of joy and make you look up. Lot of things here are driven towards monitory goals which is something everyone needs to take care but there are some other things we need to do as humans to keep us hopeful and peaceful. Not sure that helped you.
The secret is Starbucks and Tito’s. Drink accordingly!
Being a manager, I feel you need to approach your role differently. Focus more on delegating work down and mentoring your subordinates.
Manager life had been significant easier and more relaxed than senior life for me. I work with seniors who know what they're doing to an extent vs staff that needs hand holding the entire way. I can give instructions and expect them to be well received and completed with quality than having to take over and do it myself.
I literally spend most of my time on calls with my seniors providing advice/mentoring/life and career coaching instead of actual work this spring past season.
My own technical work has pretty much been limited to complex tax analysis and research + high level reviews (which is way less time consuming and stressful). The KEY is to properly mentor your staff and provide valuable guidance so they can finish YOUR work without needing to ever have you input a single number in the workpaper.
Lastly, your seniors and staff would also greatly appreciating you for the learning experience (most managers are not good mentors in my opinion). They would also feel significantly more valuable working under you having been give a bigger role in the engagement. All the while giving you less work and stress overall.
Thanks for the response. My issue is I have no team. 🤦🏻♂️ My office has 100 people, in tax we have 1 2ish staff, 1 senior, 2 managers, 3 senior managers and 5 partners....the opposite of what it should be.
There has never been a team in the area I work in. Basically a toxic partner trying to pull people on then overworking/underpaying them and they leave. I transferred to this office 2 years ago and have one person interested as the other who I had my eye on quit after 3 months.
Can my client just stop emailing me on a Friday night???
You’re manager and made this far?
